Our website is www.dvdphotoworks.com. We convert your old photographs and digital pictures into a unique DVD slideshow. There are a number of services similar to ours, but our transitions are quite different than the ordinary ones others are using. Everyone that has used our service has been very happy. I use adwords as my only source of advertising. I get quite alot of clicks but not as much response as I would like. Can you folks check it out and give me some reasons why you would not use our services if that is something that you were looking for? What ways of advertising (local or national) would you suggest for a business like that? I was thinking of setting up at a local weekend flea market to attract more customers. Do you think that is a good idea?

I have been in the computer and digital worlds for about 10 years, and it looks way too complicated for even me... The average person dosen't want to figure things out, they want the service performed for them..
I would suggest figure a way to show examples of your finished product on the home page... Also, even though your home page is stunning, I think a cleaner, simpler home page would be more inviting.... |

I think doing something local would be good since it could appeal to a lot of senior citizens. I would look through the paper to see where you could give a free talk. Look into the library and community centers. You can also give away something for free at your website as a way to get people to sign up for the newsletter.

If you want to get more website traffic to your site check out http://www.firstinforeview.com/id6.html there are some great ways to get free and also paid traffic to your site. You should most definatly sign up for the free programs after all they are free and if your advertising budget will allow sign up for spin success and what ever other programs your budget will allow. |

I've copied the paragraph in your website that you are using for announcing your service. It's too long!!!! And there is a typo in the third sentence. I wouldn't use your service just for that reason!! If you aren't accurate here, how do I know your service will be any better.

First, you need to do some basic search engine optimizing. None of your web pages has a description or keyword meta tag in them. That's basic SEO 101. I did a quick Google search for "photo transfer service" (with quotes included to narrow the search) and you are not even in the free results! But that's more about optimizing your site.
As for your service, you might be the very best at it but there's no way I'm shipping my photos and CD's to Hawaii when I can take them to a place in my local home town that is 10 minutes away. Your service is basically still a local market, not a web-based one. There is no need for anyone to send their photos and CD's way out to Hawaii if they have a service in their home town. And as another person pointed out, many people can do this type of thing on their own home computers these days. So that's what you're up against.
Lastly, you will never alleviate the fear of people having their precious photos lost in the mail, regardless of which method they ship them. People feel more secure handing over personal and sentimental items like that to somebody local. |

If I was looking for something like what you offer, and I do, I can make these myself for free. Now for people who are too dumb to relize they can, or do not have the resources for some odd reason, then this is good for them. I would reccomend using ebay and other advertizing techniques. |

Here are some thoughts:;
-Do you use craigslist at all. You can put ads in cities across the US that explain your service.
-Try adding some testimonials to the front page
-Try having some sort of promotion (50% off this week), for a
a period of time.
-Is there anything small you can provide for free, then if the customer wants the "good" stuff they have to pay.
-try setting up a blog where you post articles about your service with links back to the site.
-look into google adwords, where you can advertise for a small amount, depending on the keyword.
-pick a couple of related keywords and use SEO to get your site into the no.1 position on Google.
-send out a press release. You can do something easy for $150.
-publish original articles on one of the article sites that link back to your site.
-try to be the experts on the topic. provide info on the topic: resource material, etc. Become the place to get the latest news on your topic/product. Maybe add a forum where users can ask questions about DVD conversion, and DVD in general.

You have to identify your customer. Probably not the clickers. More like the senior citizens and/or higher earners with money to spend and don't care to take the time to do this. Clickers through the internet are web savvy ... not your customers. |
