Will spammers ever give up their quest for a quick, dishonest buck?

Well, I was talking to the man from Nigeria that listed me as the beneficiary to his $47,000,000 insurance policy just yesterday about this. He promised me that everything was on the up and up. Even though he is a multimillionaire he just needed to borrow a couple thousand from me. It is so amazing that he list ME on his policy. How did he even get my name. I am so lucky.

actually its not ALL spam.....it's called earning extra money....

see for ppl like me ...i'm a house wife with a baby on the way...i have nothing to do after the chores are done and animals are taken care of..my husband works all the time...so really..it;s entertainment plus extra money in my pocket. so i wouldn't say it's all spamming...yes 70 percent of it is....but get it right.

sherlockmcbride
I doubt it. Somewhere out there, there will always be some guy with a "get rich quick scheme" that only makes him rich at other's expense, and he will try to force it on other people with spam.

I think you need to differentiate between "Spam" and "Opt-in" emails.

For starters, Spam is illegal. Spam is when you get those emails that are advertising something and there's no way to Opt-out of recieving further emails from that sender.

Opt-in emails are when at some point, you've signed up for something and gave your email address and name, and agreed to receive emails from that sender and possibly 3rd parties.

I'm amazed at how many people sign up for something, and then when they get the information that they've agreed to receive, they call it "Spam".

Please people, don't call every commercial email "Spam". If you're receiving emails that have an opt-out feature, you're actually getting something that you've requested. Many people look forward to that information, and with everyone trying to come up with some way to block it, it gets harder and harder to get bona fide commercial email delivered.

At work for instance, we have Spam filters in place. The real spammers manage to get through all the filters, but when I try to get an email from a customer or vendor, it gets caught in the spam filter. It's the ethical commercial emailers that are paying the price for the "spammers".

If you take a look at the CanSpam act, you'll see what I mean:

Why should they as long as people fall for it.

Not as long as people keep falling for them.

Nope.

As long as there's money somewhere, there's going to be people trying to get their filching little paws on it.

I read somewhere that if a spammer sends out 77,000 emails, he still turns a profit if JUST ONE sucker buys what he's hawking.

Not as long as there are people stupid enough to fall for their tricks, sadly.

No because they will always find a couple of people to fall for their games.

You know ... I used to wonder why spammers kept sending those foreign lottery and Nigerian pleas for assistance e-mails because I simply could not believe that anyone would be stupid enough to actually fall for it.

Yet since joining Yahoo Answers, I see at least a dozen posts a day from people who have either already fallen for it or are about to.

Not to sound mean, but I never truly realized that there were so many stupid people out there. It's astonishing.

As long as there is business going on the thief's will be out there trying to exploit it....

No, not until people stop allowing them to disrupt their lives and cut off the money train.

Cut off the money train and they will stop.
