I've been buying and selling on e bay for over four years and haven't had a problem yet. Money goes through pay pal which is a secure site.
I would never give my credit card information to a seller. Your other option is to send the money to the seller in the form of a check or money order if they will accept those, but there is usually a delay until the money clears
BTW if you are the highest bidder at the end of the auction, by definition you win |

Use paypal. It is a very trusted source of online paying and I have used it hundreds of times. Never give your credit card info to the seller directly. You can always send a check that way you have a way to trace it and have a paper trail of your transactions. |

Paypal is the safest way. They have an insurance cover with all transactions, and your proof of purchase is readily available to you even years down the track. This is handy if the item breaks down under warrantee and you cant find the receipt, also all the larger safe companies all prefer paypal. I have noticed sites, other than ebay also offer paypal for protection.
When purchasing an item, others that do not offer paypal, normally give you their bank account number so you can direct deposit via ebanking from your savings/cheque account...in this case they do not receive your banking details, only your name and reference number for purchase.
My advice....use paypal if offered, otherwise check out the other peoples history very carefully.
I think if you are sensible, you shouldnt have a problem. If you are paying for a purchase and they want your credit card details, ask for theirs as you are the one putting money into their account, and they have absolutely no reason to get your banking details. Hope this helps. |

Paypal is fine, I use it all the time...
DON'T give your credit card number to the seller though, there is no need for them to have it AND its too risky |
