Window Cleaning Business - HOW TO GET CUSTOMERS???
Hi! In 2 weeks time me and a friend will be starting a window cleaning business full time. What is the best way and also how do we get customers for regular business. At the moment we are skeptical that out of a whole street of houses maybe only 4 people will want our service. HELP?

just trying to make a difference
MY TOP TIP is to get hold of a copy of cobweb's business opportunity profile for window cleaning. it will tell you the best way to advertise/market your business and who your customers are likely to be as well as covering all the basics, health & safety, legal issues etc.
you can get a copy here but it costs £6 http://www.scavenger.net/product.php?productid=1884&cat=132&page=2 however, if you contact your local business link office they usually provide cobweb guides for free http://www.businesslink.gov.uk/bdotg/action/directory?r.s=h
good luck with it!

Best answer is to go door to door and perhaps offer a free trial.

Also put adverts in free papers .. newsagents, tescos notice board etc ... perhaps also at the local Womens Institute and places where elderly people go who arent capable of cleaning their own windows any more ..

Canvass potential areas - do the local shops let you advertise in their windows? Can you paint an advert on your van? Send out spec letters to companies offering your business. But mainly have confidence (and don't canvass when it's raining lol)

I agree about doing businesses, though many of them will already have someone. Also (as well as leaflets etc.) you could talk to the local paper and tell them an interesting story about how you started the business - its called an 'advertorial' the may write up a quarter page or so you may have to place a small ad the next week or something similar.
The other thing is if there is a building developer in the area (Barretts or someone) if they are building in close proximity to peoples houses they could be approached to offer a weekly clean to the neighbouring houses as a 'goodwill' gesture to keep the neighbours happy
good luck

Our window cleaner knocked on the door and asked if we required his services..we did!!Good luck with the venture.

advertise! post fliers in the local grocery, or anywhere you can post for that matter. Leave random cards around - 'coupons'.

Moham_Shitah
Window cleaners in our area can be quite territorial, they dont like competition, they usually already have agreements with houses.

Obviously you can cut in but be ready for a few disgruntled people!

good luck

i would not do houses. i would do businesses. i have a cleaning business and do no homes because u make no money. just call businesses, go talk to the owner or mananger, leave a card, put an ad in the paper. that is how we started.

Use orkut/linkedin/ryze etc. for spreading the word.

I would suggest little flyers that could be posted through letter boxes or posters.

Yes you could advertise , but when other see what you do , the business will find you , Like many business's it's more often the case of word of mouth

Good luck and hope it works out for you

septer_01
you will need

1 x brick

do to someones house and say

"do you want a professional window cleaner service?"

(and they say yes >> great!, drop brick)

(and they say no >>

"do you want to keep your windows?"

(they say yes>>great!, drop brick)

(they say no>>
