With so many opportunities, how can a US citizen be poor and i debt?
There are so many opportunties for a US citizen to make money, how can a US citizen be poor or under debt? Dont they see opportunities that are available?

dude sometimes its just in peoples fate that that is how their life is gonna end up no matter how hard they try

momcat
What opportunities? The immigrants get all the breaks, the gov. gives them tax free businesses and great loans, why do you think so many people from other countries own so many businesses? Maybe the gov. should afford it's own people the same breaks.

hardman422
dude. what country r u from? There are as at least as many opportunities to get in debt as there are to make/invest money. It is based on a decision making process using sound judgement that is available to us all even when we choose not to use it.

Dr. O'Pinion
Opportunities are available for those who have the experience and the education to pursue those opportunities. Many people are undereducated and cannot earn enough to make ends meet. Many other factors can contribute to poverty such as huge corporate fraud and bankruptcy that cause people to lose years of accumulated savings in their 401K plans. As for one example a couple with over $300,000 in 401K Enron were left with under $40,000 and they were already 60 years old. If a couple still maintains mortgage payments it is crucial that there is steady income to prevent foreclosure and impending homelessness. Even when opportunities seem lucrative they can sometimes turn sour and you can lose a great deal of investment monies. On average it could cost $2000 a month just for expenses not including food, clothing, auto, and entertainment. It all adds up.

Personally, I don't have time to work 7 days a week. Thats is the only way I will currently be able to get myself out of debt and I have a bachelor's degree (which is one of the reasons I am in debt). It depends where you live. I make less than the cost of living and I can't afford a move right now. It's tough times.

Ask the homeless and those who live in complete poverty and in debt because they are numerous and on the streets... I dont think those who surf the net are from this category of people to be able to answer your question..Besides remember with time capitalism makes the drift larger between the poor and the rich and eliminates the middle class

bigdre22
Ask any any economist and they will tell you there is no one answer to explain poverty. In the U.S. poverty can be the result of the family you are born into, lack of ambition, un-expected medical emergencies, company lay-offs, out sourcing, poor educational environment, drug use, etc., Some people are born into an environment over flowing with oppurtunites, while others have to fight tooth and nail just for a chance. At one point my family and I were homeless for 3 years. 15 years later, I graduated from an Ivy league institution. How did I do it? My only truthful answer is God.

Its called the cost of living not keeping up with your pay and raises.

The opportunities must be taken advantage of before they generate income. As for debt, well, if you spend more than you can make, it piles up.

There is nothing magical about it, and being a US citizen is not a guaranteed free ride.

Some people just have bad luck. Some just don't have 'what it takes' to make it in the world. Many suffer from mental illnesses which hold them back. People lack skills needed to get ahead. It's not hard at all to get into debt - trust me been there done that...plastic is NOT our friend. Not to mention major illnesses cause major financial setbacks. Or some other catastrophe be it natural or accidental or intentional. It's not as easy as you try to make it sound. The opportunities you seem to think are plentiful aren't. Many jobs require an education. College is not the easiest thing in the world. Been there doing that as well. And then there's the people lacking common sense who fall into these money making scams and lose all kinds of money. Trust me...you have no clue. It is no where near as easy you as seem to think it is.

it is the country which is rich and full of opportunity .if someone doesn't make use of the opporutunity then it is his fault .the opporutunity doesn't come to you and ask to be tried. even if it comes it will come only once and the same opportunity doesn't come twice .next time is a new opporutunity.

they might not be smart enough or motivated to make money and be successful and didn't get the best channel or network .success needs thinking hardwork, perseverence, vision.gotta associate with successful and many others things l

getting born in u.s doesn't promise you millions of dollors .even poeple in developing countries make money and find success .it is about making the best use of opporutunity .and knowing it ,rather than just having it pass by in front of you

its the american way

sweet..dude..sweet..dude
People are lazzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzy. That's it. A lot of people want stuff handed to them. Huh, that's the American way, or at least that is how it is turning out to be.
It has nothing to do with the lack of people getting a raise or minimum wage. Every time someone gets a raise or minimum wage goes up, the cost of living goes up. If they keep minimum wage where it is, the economy will level out. But that won't happen, or at least people won't let that happen b/c those who are on the lower end will start to save their money and eventually get out of debt. If it got to a point where debt was not an issue for citizens, banks, credit companies,.......and so on......... they'd all be out of jobs. But it would never get to that point b/c people are to lazy to work hard and get out of debt.

Everyone has he world hating them. The world is out for itself, you have to fight for your money, you don't get it by someone handing it to you. There are those circumstance, say Trump's kids will always be rich, unless they throw thier money away. But it is all on you to making yourself successful. Those who are homeless, they just have to work hard and it'll eventually pay off.

And to those who gave me thumbs down, you did it b/c you know I'm right and you hate the fact that something can't be handed to you all the time.
