I am writing an article about "Work from home businesses".

I am looking ONLY for companies that ARE LEGITIMATE and FREE.

If your article is on someone having a business working from home, then getting started in a business is not going to be free! There is no such thing of having a business that's free. All types of business has some sort of start up cost, fees etc. Whether it covers Accounts paybales and receivables, Inventory, payroll, licensing, customer service, billing, employees, order entries, workman's comp, supplies, web sites etc .. Most home based businesses cost under $500 to start, you have the same income opportunity as a traditional business without all the overhead expenses (ex. leasing a building, extra utilities, storage costs 'wearhouses' etc.) You use your home, and only pay for things that you already use and pay for monthly anyways. Just about everything in your home becomes a tax write off, like your telephone, computer, electricity, gas, cars, etc. Things that wouldn't be a tax write off if you had a traditional shop outside of the home. If your article is for work at home that are free, then what your really looking for is a job with a w2 attached with it. Not a business.

P.S. Our home based business has three state Attorney General's on our legal advisory committee and we are registered with the BBB, DSA and the FTC. But reporting someone for sending you links to you, the A.G and the BBB won't really do anything about someone sending you a link. They're more conserned about business ethics, rules and regulations on each state and federal levels. The BBB is basically just a place where people can file complaints rather they're true or false. In most cases, I've found they're actually false accusations because someone didn't get there way. They use it basically as a soap scene. So, they won't be much help if someone sends you a link. Just some information for you.

I have been in the work at home arena for several years and can give you some help with your research. You might want to visit wahm.com, which is a great message board for work at home moms. Since you mentioned work at home business, I'm not sure if you mean jobs also. Since many companies hire people as independent contractors it's like having a business. You can go to http://www.workathomedesk.com which is a free site which a directory of legitimate companies that hire independent contractors and regular employees to work from home.
