Working as a team in my husbands business?
My husband is a self employed tradesman and I do his accounts (he pays me for this). He taught me how to do them. I also do my own freelance design work. The problem is that every day without fail I have to update his accounts so that he doesn't double up on work and visit clients that haven't paid us. It's a drag to do and takes me away sometimes for a few hours from my own work, but I see it as a way to keep the business running smoothly and save costs by employing an accountant. The problem is that I spend my time and energy doing this but find that unless I remind him every day he never checks this list - even if I print it out for him. Before I began helping him, he was 6 months behind in some payments and thousands of dollars down. It's very frustrating for me that he doesn't keep tabs and that it will cost us money unless he does (and my energy). How can I make him work more in a team with me to see that I am doing my best to ensure his accounts are up to scratch and just a simple check of his computer screen every day (he doesn't even have to start it up, it's always open on the page) will help him not go to a client that is in debt to us. He leaves very early sometimes and I don't always catch him. I alos remind him sometimes at night but still he forgets. Grrrrr.
Sit down and have a chat when nobody is angry or pressed for time. Tell him that it is important to you, and his paying attention gives you a better sense of security.
Then, commit to have breakfast (coffee only is fine) every work day for just enough time to go over the list you prepare. Seal the deal with a kiss.
