I sell Mary Kay and I love it!!! I've been able to create a nice income with it just part-time (I still have a full-time job). It sounds like you're debating whether or not to sign up and do it yourself. The thing about it is that you get out what you put in. A lot of people end up hating it because they overstock their inventory when they don't have the clientel, and end up losing a lot of money in the process. People will tell you that you have to make Mary Kay your life and that you have to work really hard to be successful. I don't work hard, I work smart. That's why I'm so happy with my decision in selling. I decide what inventory to stock. I work around my own schedule. I don't let directors convince me to put in huge wholesale orders just to get recognition or help the unit grow.
In response to a few of the other answers:
1. Read Mary Kay's book "Miracles Happen". You'll understand why she decided to make the company private again, even after being successful in the stock market.
2. The reason Mary Kay is not sold in stores (like Avon, Arbonne and other cosmetics brands) is because the company is based on personal service and the ability to try before you buy. No woman wants to keep wasting money on makeup and skin care products that don't work, or look good on them. The difference between having a consultant work with you and going to a makeup counter is that you learn how to apply the makeup yourself, rather than having someone put in on your face for you then tell you to look in the mirror and when you get home after spending all the money on the makeup that they used, and can't get it to look the same way. Also, have you seen those reports on the news about all of the bacteria that's found in the products at makeup counters??? It's gross. With Mary Kay you know that you won't encounter those issues because the consultants never use the same thing for each person.
3. You do not pay the company to sell anything! The money that you give to the company when you start is $100 for your starter kit. The products that come with it are worth way more than that $100, and it comes with all of the tools and information you need to get started. The $200 is the usual amount that people use for their initial wholesale order. You're buying the products wholesale through the company, but you make that money back plus your 50% commission when you sell the products.
If you are seriously considering it, you can contact me directly. I will honestly answer any questions that you have regarding the business. Letting you know the positives and the negatives. |

I have never used Mary Kay products, but I have tried selling a lot of different things in the past (all legal). They must be good products or it would have gone belly up a long time ago. I currently have a couple of websites through the companies that I am buying wholesale from. I buy all natural products for my own use--like health products -- liquid vitamins--healthy diet products--detergents without chemicals. I have gotten rid of the chemicals in my home that were causing breathing problems, rashes, headaches, etc. When other people want to order the products, I send them to my website so they can sign up and order directly from the company and get commission checks when others buy. Believe me-- commission checks are good word-of-mouth advertising. Go to www.eyicom.com/?key=glory2god. |

Been there, done that. Mary Kay, like Amway, Shakley vitamins..etc.
Becomes like a cult. If you have the cult mentality, go for it. It is overpriced.
You work very hard for them, and most people quit. Companies like that make money on selling YOU the merchandise. If you make your money back by selling others, you have done well. |

No. Mary Kay is a theif. When she took her company private after being a publically held company she used a little known law in Texas to buy the shares on the market at below market prices. It is a form of stealing from her investors...legal theivery, but theivery nonetheless. |

I was the top Mary Kay rep in my hometown a while back, and still resigned. I found that the company had already experienced hyper-growth and therefore, no matter how good your product, it is difficult to make a living at it. That ship has sailed. I found it difficult to "talk people into" having a home party that they didn't want in the first place and the price was an issue for most as well.
If you are looking for a home business to supplement your income you need to do a little homework.
First of all, be sure the company is in good standing with the Better Business Bureau, then look for a product in demand.
People who choose a business that is in demand by the baby boomers experience far more success. In the 50's it was Gerber baby food, the 60's was Mattel and Fisher Price, the 70's was Real Estate, etc. All had an 18 year window of opportunity by being there for the boomers.
What they are looking for now is health and anti-aging., which has become today's multi-billion dollar industry and growing more each day. |

only if that was a last resort. Use to sell Avon and it was a hassle collecting money once customers placed in order. I have a friend that sells Mary Kay and she has experienced the same problem. |

dont do it. Here is a simple principle. If a company will not sell its products in a regular store or online store, ask yourself why not?
Think about it. |
