If you wish to create an income from home, then a home based business is ideal. The biggest advantages are working hours that you can set to suit yourself, the opportunity to leverage time through the efforts of others, and significant tax advantages.
There are hundreds of possible businesses, but one that involves you in selling I would personally avoid, as you will require a lot of time to contact customers get the orders and see them delivered. Now a also business requires some capital to start up so I would recommend looking for one that requires less than $500 to start, but remember it is your business and it will only be successful if you are prepared to put some amount of continuous effort into it. It will take some time to build and get an income flowing, so I would study all opportunities very closely and see if your choice has any bonus schemes which can act as cash flow as the main income stream grows.
With most businesses it will take 2-4 weeks before the first income may be received, but that is normal, in fact most home based jobs will only pay monthly. But with a business the income should increase quickly as the weeks progress, in fact it is possible to be earning a significant extra income within 6 months and be financially free in 2-4 years.
Some 9 years ago I got involved with a company in the second largest industry in the world – Telecommunications. What impressed me with this company was the attitude of the owners, they were already in a position where they could have retired, but they decided that they had a company that could grow and help very many people throughout the world to realise their financial dreams.
This company now operates in 19 countries on 3 continents and expects to be opening up another 50 countries over the next few years. They have been featured in many publications like USA Today, Success from Home Magazine (twice), Fortune, and Inc 500 rated then the 22nd fastest growing company in the USA after their first 5 years, not only that but the 2nd most profitable.
Recently the multi-billionaire Donald Trump endorsed the opportunity, calling it probably the best available in the world today.
The services the company offers are local and long distance calling, Internet, Digital, Voip with video phones, Satellite TV and cell phone services with all the major cell phone providers. Now everybody knows plenty of other people who use these services in their homes every day, and this opportunity allows you to save people money on these services, but at the same time it allows you to earn a percentage of the monthly billing of all the people, who are saving money on the services you recommended, now you have created a residual based income, you get paid every month for as long as the customer continues to use the service. This can be a very profitable business as the industry turns over approximately one Trillion US dollars annually.
Now just a little bit of information about myself, I am nearly 62 and spent most of my working life in traditional manufacturing companies at Director level, so I know a bit about business. What I have discovered in the last few years, I wish I had known about when I left college. It has taken me over 30 years to discover a business that I can honestly recommend to anybody, although they will have to have drive and determination to succeed.
If you would like any more information feel free to email me.

I suggest taking a look at what financial has. I know quite a few people involved in the same industry and make an incredible amount of money working around their school schedules. When they've graduated they continued to make that money. It's also a major funding source for non profit organizations

Avon is not a steady source of income unless you have a lot of time to spend selling it.
It's fine to sell, but don't expect to make a 'few' hundred. Maybe a few dollars here and there, but with school, you won't be as lucky to make that much money.
Best of luck. |

My daughter-in-law sells Avon, and according to her, it is alot of work. When she sends her orders into the company, sometimes they screw up her orders and send her the wrong items, or they will send her items that she did not order, which she has to turn around and then send back to the company. She doesn't make much money at it, and it definitely is not a steady income that you can depend on. |

I have no idea, but most clients will be your friends and family, and they may get annoyed quickly. My neighbour is here every month selling her Avon products, and it bugs everyone! |

If you are looking for steady income up front then a regular job is probably best. However, this is not to say you should not try Avon as a way to supplement your income. My daughter is full time student in college, works at a major department store 20 hours a week and has her own on line travel business. She is only 18 years old but manages her time. Everyone in life has the same 24 hours in a day.
No one ever said that direct sells would be easy. If you only put a few hours a month into it then your results will be minimal. However, the more time you put into it, the more you increase your chances for success. There is no such thing in business as "steady income". Some weeks the sales are way up and other weeks it is down. A business is based on results (profits) while a job is based on performance.
You also have to be mentally tough and not care what people think because sometimes your family and friends will say negative and hurtful things about your business.
You have to also be able to get out of your comfort zone and sell beyond your family and friends. Think of all the people you do business with on a regular day. These could be your dry cleaner, your hair dresser, a church group, a cashier at a store, a fitness center, nail salon and much more. The United States has over 250 million people, so when you have talked to everyone then you should stop selling.
Remember this: Successful people look at an opportunity and say "it is difficult, but possible". The others look at an opportunity and say "it is possible, but difficult" You decide which one fits you.
There is also something that so many people in the answer business forum fail or forget to mention and that is the numeorus tax breaks that come with owning a business (home based or store front). As a Avon rep you are a Independent Business Owner. The many business deductions you can claim if legitimate include mileage reimbursement at the end of the tax year. When it is business related you get reimbursed 50.5 cents a mile.
You also get tax breaks on "business related" things such as eating out, training, materials, things you buy for your computer such as printer ink, paper. You can also claim charges for your cell phone because you need it to call clients. You can claim internet fees because you use it to email your clients and keep track of your Avon earnings. As long as you are pursuing a profit, are keeping good records and it is a legitimate claim then having a home business is the way to go. The laws on tax deductions are many so I would recommend getting a book on business taxes. You should also always ask a tax professional.
When you have a regular job, you may have steady income but someone else decides how much you make, when you work, and if you deserve a raise. Additionally, all the gas and mileage you spend getting back and forth to work goes to make someone else rich. Then when you get your paycheck ever two weeks, they take out all those taxes and you rarely get anything back at the end of the year.
You are only 19 and that is to your advantage. You have your whole life ahead of you to make mistakes and grow. If you listen to the "glass is half empty" crowd then you will always have doubts.
Many people will work until retirement into their sixties, have nothing to show for it and leave nothing but debt for their families.
Finally, while their is no guarantee that selling Avon will make you rich, at least many years down the road, you can say you had the courage to give it try. The saddest words in life are "it could have been".
Good luck and I wish you great sucess in whatever you do. |

I used to sell Avon products, and it was a lot of work although I made like 300 hundred a month. I think nowadays there are easier ways to make money like blogging.
