If your father works there and he is sending it, then you should accept it.
If someone else in Nigeria is offering to send you money, it is a scam and they will destroy all your credit and make your life miserable in the USA for the next twenty years if you give them any personal information at all.
That's the way it is.
About one million people in Nigeria alone are running this scam. If they fool just one person, they sell his personal information to real, crafty crooks and use small amounts of money they ask you for later to live for many months in Nigeria without doing any work at all.
Meanwhile, the crafty crooks will do all manner of illegal things, having YOUR NAME and YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION attached to them, all over the USA.
It has already been done many, many times, but people never seem to learn.
Ask the FBI if you doubt what I have said here. |

I actually accepted a check from Nigeria and deposited it, but before I could send the money back, a friend stopped me.
... THANK GOD!!
The check got returned a few weeks later marked as "fraud".
If I had sent the $1800 from the $2000 check they sent, I would have had no money in the bank to cover my loss. I would have been in the hole $1800, my credit ruined, and who knows what for cashing a fraudulent check (I think that I would have been legally held liable).
I have heard of MUCH WORSE happening to other people, in the amounts of tens of thousands of dollars.

NO NO NO NO NO NO--Let my story be a warning for anyone who receives money orders from Nigeria. There is a huge scam coming out of that country called "419 Fraud". I met a chap on a Christian Singles website (of all places) and we chatted for a while...well, after a while, he told me how he was stuck in Nigeria and had money orders that he could not cash so he asked if he could send them to me and in turn could i send him the money via Western Union. Well, $1800.00 later, both money orders came back to my bank as fraudulant and I was out all that money...and all for trying to do the right thing. So, no matter how legit the M.O. might look, do not accept them!! Please, learn from my huge and painful mistake!! |
