17 year old girl, claimed as a dependent on parent's taxes, but made $3000. Do I get the tax rebate?
My parents claimed me on their taxes as a dependent. But I worked all last year, and made over $3000, so do I qualify for the rebate? I initially thought i did, but now I have read an article that makes me worry otherwise. Help?

Thanks, everyone. And a messgae to Ibu Guru:

I DID file income taxes, I've been paying IN for over a year. from the day I could get hired for a real job, I had one, and I paid into the system, so don't make me feel like a retard.

Well these people are partially right. You don't qualfiy for a rebate because your parents claimed you. Your parents don't qualify for a rebate for you because you're over 17. In short, neither you or your parents will benefit from the stimulus act when it comes to you.

Cigar_Fan
If your parents claimed you, then no.. It does not matter what you made..If you would have filed independently, then you would have gotten the rebate.

No, dependents aren't eligible.

lucee
Why would you worry about it? You don't get a rebate if you can be claimed as a dependent on someone else's return. Your parents claimed you - they will get the $300.

Wayne S
No you will not, your parents will get the $300 for you being a dependent.

In most cases, people who are claimed as a dependent will not get the stimulus payment. Instead, your parents, who claimed you, will received up to $300 for claiming you.

Adrian & Jaslene's Mommy
Not if your a dependent on someone's taxes

no - your parents get 300 for you

ibu guru
You are a dependent. You did not file any income tax return of your own, you did not pay any income taxes, so you cannot get a rebate! Define "rebate" -- return of something you paid! And dozens of other people have asked this same question.
