I think you're behind most people your age in life but not too far. If you're in college, I suggest getting a part time job and working as much as you can.
College jobs aren't that great, they tend to be very relaxed- they're hardly real-world experience.
If you don't get started soon you're going to be seriously retarding your chances in the future. There are so many different things to learn when it comes to working. It may sound silly, but even a job at a fast food restaurant would be good for you at this stage.
I wouldn't call you lazy because of it like some people have been; inexperienced would be the best term. Experience is critical when you are looking for employment.
I've been working in industry as an engineer for several years now. I see entry-level engineers who come straight from college with little to no work experience and it shows. Some of them have excellent social skills, others are very bright, but having no work experience sets them back several years, at the least. Then there are those who are hired in with work experience- I can't think of a case where someone without work experience managed to out-perform someone with work experience, regardless of the work which was performed.
Don't let the haters get to you. You're 19 in a country which has its priorities seriously screwed up. I think your parents have made some bad choices but now that you're getting to be an adult you have the freedom to correct those problems. You're not that far behind.
One word of advice for you when you finally do start working...
Work, for the most part, stinks. If you manage to find a job that you love, that's awesome. Most people end up making compromises for money; heck, most people will do whatever they can in order to make the most money they can. Everyone has a list of things they won't do- following that list doesn't mean they're going to be working a job that they enjoy though.
What does matter, at every job, are the people you work with. If you work with great people you'll probably enjoy working. When you work, it's like being part of a new family, but in this case you are all working together to do something (all for the same reason too). The types of bonds that form are unique. The communication and social skills in the workplace are unique. Attitudes and dealing with people are crucial. Those are all things that you have yet to learn about... Even if you don't need to work, I'd suggest you get a job just to start learning these things. They may seem trivial and unimportant but years down the road they are going to be a big part of who you are. |

Sorry man but you really need to get a job. Maybe you might not really need any money but having a job teaches you responsibility and it prepares you for better jobs. |

I think you need to get a job so you may gain experience. I can not judge you. You may or may not have reasons for not working that are considered good or bad by others. But you need experience for better paying jobs as you get older. |

my boyfriend is 19, he's never had a job. i guess he just never needed one. He's going to university, living at home while for awhile. i'm 18 and i've only had one job, and it was just for the summer. I say theres no rush, you have your whole life to work, cherish the days where you don't have to be stuck at work for 10 hours a day!
ps. i don't see how not having a job makes you lazy, i mean what do they know what you do in your spare time? |

Not real unusual if you are still in school, but sounds like it's about time to get at least a part time job, or full time if you aren't in school.
Good luck. |

A friend of mine is 21,never worked, and his parents buy gas, food, and pay for college. He didn't graduate this year and has no idea what he is going to do next. I say you've got a couple more years before you become pathetic. Right now, you're just kind of lazy. |

I'd need some more information on you. Like what is your character, how you treat others.
Is it that you've never worked or that you can't keep a job? If it's the latter, why is that? There are valid reasons for not being able to hold a job such as personal issues needing to be dealt with.
Sometimes people fall into a gap. They are overqualified for any of the entry-level jobs which bore them much more than they do other people, and so it's harder for them to keep that job. Yet they can't get into anything better without a work history. Others just never get the chance they need to succeed.
But I don't judge people based on whether they have a job or not at a particular age. |
