4 X 4 OWNERS ONLY. (NO DO-GOODERS/GREENIES) What do you think of the hike in tax..AGAIN?
I own a Landrover Discovery, they are NOT bullying ME out of it.
Additional Details
I have four children and they are safe in in, not some crappy ford ka that would crumple like paper in a shunt.
Anyway, as I said, NO DO-GOODERS, a lot of people CANNOT READ.

My dad owns a land rover and personally I think the tax is good in someways. So many 4x4's these days are driven by incompetent woman who can't drive for sh**. 4X4's are just American garbage, fuel guzzling none necessity's that are only beneficial for example a land drover on a farm. Most of the 4x4's are not driven off road so prove pointless apart from looking ahead in traffic jams; which we wouldn't have if these huge 4x4's weren't taking up the road, and these so called WAGS drove a ford ka or got the bus!

I also own a landrover discovery 1998 300tdi I get 30mpg out of her. We put in twenty quids worth of diesel per week. It pulls a horse trailer to local shows. My three kids have all been brought up with horses and have never been in trouble. they have never hung about on the streets. Without the discovery we could not have pursued this hobby and now it seems I am to be penalised. The trouble with these greenies they never look at the reasons why people need 4x4s. this tax is unfair put it on the pump price that would be more fair.

Although I am now led to belive that the new tax hike will effect vehicles registerd after 2001

zeggy
As a 4x4 owner myself, I too am sick of this extra tax because you choose to drive a certain vehicle.
Many 4x4's are manufactured in this country, therefore providing jobs to the people that build and sell them. If the Government really weren't using the 4x4 driver as an excuse to heavily tax them, they would stop them being produced if they were such an environmental concern which they of course won't do!
My husband and I are farmers and our 4x4 is essential to us on the farm as well as being our only vehicle. I suppose we could always sell it and buy a smaller car and then use the tractor instead to tow the trailers about on the roads causing massive queues at rush hour as we are now using a slower vehicle and also causing more pollution as vehicles will have to really up those revs when they overtake!
Having a 4x4 is a life choice. These vehicles are available to buy by whomever CHOOSES to buy one.
The Environmental concern is just an excuse. Our 4x4 uses Unleaded and does 30-35 mpg, similar to a lot of cars. There are far more pressing environmental problems and they are not going to be solved by sticking a couple of hundred quid on road tax.

Stand your ground. At least you don't have Al Gore over there preaching global warming.

i own a ford explorer and have no plans to drive anything else..and if you mean ford vehicles are crap in case you did not know land rover is owned by ford,so you are also part of the crappy ford family

kendos
Zeggy has a point - additional taxes should be based on fuel economy rather than vehicle class. But, I'd sell your heap of crap 4x4's now if I were you:

1) The resale value of these vehicles will start to collapse as their running costs escalate. Exactly that happened with V6 and V8 engines in Aussie as petrol prices went up....
2) No one is going to like you. Driving a polluting vehicle in urban environments is going to become socially unacceptable..... (We'll make exceptions for farmers with dirty (used) vehcles).
3) They don't keep your kids safe. The more people in your neighbourhood who drive these things the greater the risk to your kids. These heavy vehcles are deadly at much lower speeds than the Ford Ka.

If you're serious about protecting your kids, move to the USA, buy a gun and keep them all indoors eating junk food and playing video games.

bellyman
i think you will find they are trying to stop people buying them as they use a lot of fuel..which will not last forever... and most people do not use them for what they are made to do...

nothing to do with if they are save or not for your kids,,, but if you can afford it then carry on...

i must admit i dont see why some people have them just to drive the kids to school or go to work in the city etc... any car will do more or less the same. as long as everybody can get in...
