It depends which country the VAT is applied to and which rate of VAT it is.
The standard rate in the UK is 17.5% giving you a VAT value of 87.5p.
Different rates apply for different things (children's clothes for example) and for different countries.
Have a look here.

To do it without a calculater, remember that 17.5 is 10 + 5 + 2.5.
10% of £5 is easy - 50p
5% of it is half that - 25p
2.5% is half that - 12.5p (round up to 13p)
Then add them: 50 + 25 + 13 = 88p
So £5 plus the VAT is £5.88 |

it's 5.88 |

At Zero rate £5
At 5% rate £5.25
At standard rate £5.87 |

On a calculator
5.00 multiplied by 17.5%
that gives you the VAT amount of 0.875
then press plus
that adds them together 5.875 |

£5.00 + VAT (value added tax)
vat is 17.5 % of the net price.

£5.87.
I can only assume you don't know what the VAT rate is as it's a simple calculation, even did it in my head.
The UK VAT rate is 17.5%. |
