Z X | £60 tax rebate in our September pay packets? |
Is it true that those of us on the basic tax rate of 20-22% will get a tax rebate of £60 in our September pay packets and also a nett pay rise by £10 per month for the rest of the tax year?
I believe this is all due to the U-turn on plans to scrap the lowest 10 pence tax band?
I get an annual income of £17,500 and take home around £1,145. I assume that I will see this rebate?
Please advise if anyone out there has heard about this?

Yes you should get a rebate.
This is because they scrapped the 10% tax band and then regretted it. So we should have only paid 10% tax on a certain amount of our earnings. But what happened was we paid 20%. So now they're rebating us. I believe your figures are about right.
The 22% by the way was what we used to pay on tax. It was reduced to 20% (yippee) but then scrapped the 10% band - bad for the low income. The lower the income, the more you lose. You would have benefited by a pound or two per month, but min wage earners lost around £12p/m. |

yes i got mine!!!
what happened is the personal allowance (the amount the government lets us earn which is not subject to tax) was increased therefore we get what we have overpaid back and pay less tax for the rest of the year!!
