A VERY important question about the 2008 refund stimulus payment?
Okay when I filed my 2007 tax return I used direct deposit to receive my payment but a month later I closed that bank account that i used to receive the money. Now I am waiting for the 2008 refund stimulus payment and I wanted to know if IRS knows to send my refund by check through the mail since that bank account does not exist anymore.

When it comes back to them, they'll send you a check.

And whoever it was that said we have to pay taxes on it...no we don't. It's a 'rebate' this time - not an 'advance.'

The IRS will send it to the bank and then the bank will send it back to the IRS and then the IRS will send you a paper check. Hope this helps :D

They won't know your bank acct doesn't exist until the refund rejects. Then they will cut you a paper check...could be quite a while. If you paid someone to file your taxes...like HR Block or Turbo Tax, you will get a paper check anyway. Same if you got any kind of refund anticipation loan.

They'll find out when they try to send the payment and it's rejected, and they'll mail you a check.

Jss
IRS will send by direct deposit. Then after a few days they will know that the payment did not go through. Then they will do paper check-- minimum of 6 weeks extra delay.

For information on stimulus tax rebate schedule, the eligibility and how much rebate you will get read: http://taxipay.blogspot.com/2008/02/are-you-eligible.html

You will get a check within a couple of weeks after the direct deposit is rejected. This assumes that you didn't have a refund anticipation loan or check, or had the fees deducted from your refund.

I would call the IRS and let them know your account is closed, and double check that they have your correct address.Thats if it was me.

Skinny Mini
Remember that at the end of the year we all must pay taxes on that money. It will come via the mail to the address you used to filed your taxes. SAVE IT for a rainy day.
