I think you are allowed to have up to £3000 in savings before you need to mention it to the benefits agency.
check with DWP http://www.dwp.gov.uk/
just don't mention any names so they won't be keeping tabs on your friend |

If s/hes on Incapacity benefit its not means tested, so a gift shouldnt affect it. Only an earned income above the permitted work threshold would affect it. For housing benefit a one off gift wouldnt affect it either , its not a regular income, and as long as its less than the capital limit (which I think is £3000) it wont be counted as capital, (capital also reduces housing benefit). But to be on the safe side, paying a bill for your friend would not affect any benefits. |

Your a really kind friend how nice for a change. If you gave her a gift of money is it possible that you could give it to her in cash so that noone need know about it i.e her bank of DSS. |

What you could do is get them to set up another bank a/c to put funds into. |

I don't think a gift would affect the benefits unless it takes the total savings to more that a predetermined figure (about £3000 I think)
I have occasionally made gifts of several hundreds of pounds to my son who is unfortunately dependent on such benefits too.
The authorities are more interested in people claiming benefits illegaly like when they are working and earning a regular wage. |

Hi,
It depends on the type of benefit received.
If it is Incapacity Benefit, it will not be affected as it is a contributory benefit. However, if your friend receives Income Support or any other means tested benefit, it will be counted as unearned income and the whole amount will be taken into account. This also applied to Housing Benefits as it is also a means tested benefit. |

do you mean you want to give her money?
if so you cannot give her any as this is seen as an income
Every 6 to 12 months benefit office do a check, and they ask for bank statements etc
any money not accounted for will be seen as a 2nd income |
