Brandon
A larger amount was taken out of my check for taxes, did adding her to my benefits have anything to do with it

no. there would be less money taken out for taxes because there was more money taken out to pay for the benefits. any money taken out for insurance, etc. is "pre-tax" meaning they do not tax that. therefore. you would have less money left to have taxes held from. unless you got a bunch of overtime and after benefits were paid you still made more than normal. than they would hold more taxes because you made more money! the more you make, the more they take. if you did not get any overtime then there is something up with your company. even if you added her as a dependent on your w-4, they would withold LESS tax.

Not for taxes, but for whatever benefit you signed up for

was it taken out for benefits or for taxes. It should not have affected your taxes (or possibly lowered them) but may have affected your benefits deductions. That is the problem with the Income Tax system. Most people can't even figure out what they are paying.

rockyfella25
You sure it was out of your taxes and not your pay check..Benefits you added like medical and dental.. has nothing to do with your taxes on your pay check. if you make more money they take out more taxes. So my answer to your question would be no

Coco
This doesn't sound correct. The more people on the plan the higher the rate. The more dependants you add to your taxes the less the deduction. Check this with HR. It sounds like an error.

While you're checking on the cost of your benefit package, see what tax status you have with the payroll department. You may want to change your withholdings to a lesser amount.

Was she added as a dependant on your records? Then of course more will come out-also more will be taken out to cover her within your medical etc benefits

lumishermanbaby
it certainly did.

that is how women work, they promise some benefit. then they get control of your possessions.
