Yes. If tax money is deducted from your paycheck (assuming you are not getting paid in cash without paying taxes) in most cases you are eligible to receive all of your money back. Sometime in January you will recieve an evelope with your w-2 in it. If you are being claimed by someone as a dependant and you make under ten thousand a year you will fill out a 1040-ez tax form. You can get them from the post office, the library or from www.irs.gov. You fill in the lines with the info from your w-2. It's almost, at this point, like coloring by numbers. If you read the paper it will tell you everything you need to know. If you have questions you can call the hotline or sometimes the tax services will help you out with small questions. The site I attached can help a lot it is all about taxes for students. |

You aren't required to file a return. But if they took out $300, or anything at all, for federal income tax, you can file a return and get all of it back. You won't get back the amount taken out for social security and medicare.
File a form 1040EZ - you can download it at irs.gov - and be sure to check the box on line 5 that says YOU.
Since you don't owe anything, you won't be penalized for filing late. |

If that is all your income, you will get any federal withholding tax back, but not social security or medicare.
Age really is not an issue, you can pay taxes as an infant or person that is 100 years of age or more.
Welcome to the real world. :) |

Hi
If by "eligible for taxes" you mean that Federal icome tax has been withheld when perhaps it should not have been then it is an excellent question.
First, however, let's make sure we are talking about "income tax" withheld. For certain, you are subject to (not "eligible for", that sounds like a privelege) Social Security and Medicare taxes. On your paystub you may see those words or abbreviations for them or "OASDI" or "FICA". All of them mean the same thing. This is money that you cannot get refunded to you by filing a tax return. It is a tax that pays for old age, death and disability benefits.
The total of these should be 7.65% of your gross pay (that is before anything is deducted). I am not familiar with TX but some states also deduct a mandatory percentage for disability insureance.
Now, TX has no income tax, so that brings us to "Federal withholding tax" This, believe it or not, is NOT TAX! It is money deducted from your paycheck that goes into a government account with your name on it.
How much Fed income tax is withheld is based on how you filled out form W-4. If you wrote single aith 1 or 0 allownaces, then they are withholding Fed tax. If you wrote "exempt" on line 7 of the form, no tax will be withheld. If you expect to earn under $5400 in 2008, you will pay no tax so you can claim "exempt".
When you make a Fed. Income Tax Return (that is when you actually figure the tax) if your withheld tax exceeds your actual tax you receive the excess as a refund. If it is insufficient you have to pay the difference with your tax return.
Now If your income for 2008 (assuming no other income beside your job) is under $5400 you are not required to file a tax return. However, you may want to file a tax return in order to get a refund of excess withheld tax. Also, Be sure to talk with your parents to be sure that they are claiming your dependent exemption. If so, be sure to read the tax retun form (1040A or 1040EZ) carefully so you do not claim your own exemption. The forms will state "if someone else can claim you as a dependent...." and check or leave blank the box as appropriate.
Sorry for the long story but this is just how ridiculous the income tax law has become. So much has been put on employers that they are not in the position to help you fil out the form.
Good luck! |

Your age makes no difference as your employer is required to withhold taxes from your paycheck.
But, on the bright side, you haven't made enough to have to pay income taxes yet. If that's your only income you'll need to file a return in order to get a refund of what has been paid.
Unfortunately, this doesn't apply for FICA (Social Security) withholdings. You won't get that back.
Have your parents help you on your return! |

Yes. There is no age minimum to file. The instructions actually tell parents what to do if a child is filing who is not yet old enough to be able to write, and therefore cannot sign the form.
Anyone may file. Most persons must file. For a few, it is optional. If any money was deducted for "income" tax, then either (a) you are required to file, (b) you will receive money back if you file, or (c) both.
If you had only "social security", FICA, medicare, OASDI, etc., deducted, then you will probably not get back any money. |

Yes. If your earnings exceed the IRS's minimum income required to file, you must file. |

yes, you can file a tax return, and get that money back.
Once you get your W2 back you can file, I would ask your parents about it.
But you can go on line and fill out a free tax return
Also, You do Not have to fill out a tax return Unless you owe money. Just correcting the guy above
What is with all the thumbs down to correct answers.... There are some really dumb people out there if they don't know the answer to this question |

As long as it wasn't "under the table" and you get a W2 form than yes. |

Yes, you should file an income tax return at the end of the year. Ask your parents for help. You might get all or most of the withheld income tax back. |

if you paid in taxes then you are elligible however it may stop your folks from claiming you but since they probably pay more than half your living expenses it should be fine.
Good for you working....more kids should be so ambitious. (a lot of adults too) |

what do you mean?? Are you eligible for income tax???....You work, you PAY tax...period. Welcome to the real world.
Now, when it comes to filing your taxes, there may be the case where your personal exemptions mean you don't really OWE the money, so you will get a refund next year most likely, depending on the rules in texas. I'm sure people who only make 2000 in a year would get all of the taxes that were withheld BACK.

Anyone of any age earning any money is "eligible" for income tax witholding. Fill out a 1040EZ to see if you can any of it back, but probably not. |
