Lisa | Am I eligible for the $600 tax rebate? |
I am 21 years old and made about $30,000 in 2007. My parents do NOT claim me. I ended up having to pay $300 because I claimed 3 throughout the year. Am I eligible for getting the $600 tax rebate? If so, will I have to pay the money back or will they deduct that money for next years tax return? Any good websites where I can read more about this? Thanks!! =) |

you should get the rebate It's not taxable, and it won't reduce your 2007 or 2008 refund or increase the amount you owe when you file your 2008 return. you can check it out @ www.irs.gov and read under rebate |

You are at least eligible for the $300 rebate since you had earned income of $3000. You would be eligible to receive a rebate of up to $600 if you paid that much in Federal Income Tax. If you only paid $350 in taxes (less than the $600 rebate limit), you only get back $350.
The rebate will not effect your 2008 federal tax liability or refund. The law says the IRS can't recover any extra rebate payment by reducing your 2008 refund or adding to your 2008 tax bill.
The "rebate" is an advance credit against your 2008 tax return (which will be filed in 2009). However, it is calculated based on the amounts shown on your 2007 return. When you file your 2008 return, the IRS will recalculate your "rebate" based on the 2008 amounts. If this results in a larger "rebate", you will receive a check for the difference. If this results in a smaller rebate, you will not have to repay the difference.
The "rebate" will not increase or decrease any tax refund to which you are entitled. It is an additional refund.
The best, and only official, website to read about it is the IRS Rebate page (link below). |

you will get a rebate, but make sure you file your tax return this year or you wont. and you wont have to pay it back. spend it! it is supposed to stimulate the economy. |

You are eligible.... If your total tax liabilty is over $600, then you get $600... If it is under $300... Then you get the minimum $300.
You do not have to pay it back and it is not considered taxable income... This is a complete fallacy that seems to have been spread around. It will not affect your 2008 return. |

1) You will get the $600
2) You will pay no federal tax on it and will not have to pay it back.
3) Some states MAY make it taxable, ut none have so far.
$600 for you to spend !!! |

Yes, you'll be eligible, and will probably get the maximum of $600. You can read more about it at irs.gov
For 2008 (taxes filed a year from now) there will be a tax cut - the rebate now is an advanced payment on that cut, so if you get a check now, you won't get the advantage of the cut next year. But your refund next year will be what it would have been if this whole stimulus check/tax cut thing hadn't happened. |

Yes you are eligible. No you cannot deduct it from what you owe.
pay what you owe on your taxes and you will get your $600 in the mail sometime in May.
Don't make things so difficult. The one is NOT related to the other and cannot be mixed on your current tax return. |
