Am I entitled to a refund?
I bought a pair of shoes 6 months ago for £85 and the soul has come off. I still have the box they came in from the shop but no receipt. Can I get a refund or get new ones?

I would say no. Most stores/shops have a return policy of 30-90 days depending on their policies. And most require that you have a receipt to return or be refunded.

Your statutory rights entitle you to goods that are correctly described and of merchantable quality. To make a claim, you need proof of purchase - otherwise there's only your word for it that you bought them 6 months ago.

Save yourself a lot of anger and buy a tube of glue to stick the sole back on.

I would have to say no. Most shoe shops will not refund as you have worn the shoes and they cannot take them back and re-sell them. Although, for the price you paid, I would go back and demand a new pair, that should not be happening so quickly.

True Enough
You most likely cannot get a refund, unless the store is known for that, but you can look up the shoe manufacturer online and call them to see if they can send you a replacement pair. Most times they will.

vampini
Did you buy them on card??? with no receipt they do not have to give you a refund...if you bought them on card find the statement and take that with you! If not find a good cobbler!!!

You paid a decent amount of money for the trainers and would not expect them to be poor quality. Btw - a trainer has a sole not a soul (we have souls lol). Without a receipt of some sort (eg cheque stub, credit card statement) I think you are on to a losing battle. You could try sending them back to the manufacturers saying you expected more from such a well known company etc and as a gesture of goodwill they may repair them for you. (They don't have to because your contract of sale is with the retail outlet). Good luck.

Probably not - the receipt is actually irrelevant but anyway because of the timescale - stores and shops also have rights - your best bet would be to take them back and providing they haven't been worn to destruction, ask them to send them back to the manufacturer for you or give you the address to send them.

If they have hardly been worn then they may replace or repair for you

KJ
I wouldn't think so, as the shop would have no idea how you have treated the shoes during the 6 months, how many times you have worn them etc or whether the sole has fallen off due to the way the shoes have been treated/worn, which is out of their control. Goods sold should be durable, but that is open to interpretation depending on goods.

Also, without a receipt the shop will have no proof that you bought them 6 months ago.

You can give it a go, but don't hold your breath. I believe the shop would be well within their rights to offer you remedial action - i.e. repair of the shoes.
