D R | Am I entitled to any benefits? |
I earn £16,000 pa and my partner earns £12,000 pa. We both live together in rented accomodation with no dependants.
We are struggling quite a bit and was wondering if we can claim any? Many thanks for your help. |

Why are you struggling? What do you spend your money on? I fail to see how anyone with a joint income of £28k can be struggling. Take a hard look at your outgoings and rationalise. |

Sorry but the answer is a big NO. On that income you are not entitled to any benefits at all. All you can do is cut back on your outgoings. Pensioners getting a basic pension of £72 per week are still made to pay some council tax and/or rent. On £28,000 pa you would be expected to fund yourselves. xx |

I'd say no my household earns far less that your combined income and manages just fine with enough spare money to splash out on a few expensive luxuries
if your sturggling cut back on your spending and buy the value or cheaper brands as opposed to the finest expensive brands and cut back on what you don't need |

Hi
I work in a benefits office and I can say without a second thought that your income is way too high to claim any types of benefits.....Sorry!! |

With 28k coming in between you, and no dependents, I would that if you do get benefit then there is something wrong with the system as folks on much, much less would be funding you. |

Having 28k coming in a year then i dont think you would be entitled to any sort of benefits. If you are struggling with money then you need to reconsider the way you are budgeting your money and avoid buying unecessary luxury items. You can try going to you citizens advice bureau for advice.
My husband and i are currently living on 12k a year comfortably enough (and we have a baby on the way) and yet we are managing save a bit of money away each month. |

£28,000!! - At a guess I would say no. |

Are you bragging here or something?
Why should you be able to claim anything?
It's your mess, you have to try & get out of it yourselves - just like the rest of us (except some of us have dependants too).
My only advice to you is to not have children until you are financially better off. There is no dignity in claiming benefits!! |

I don't think so. My partner and I earn a lot less than you and have a child and we don't get any help with rent or council tax although we do get some tax credits because of the wee one. |

It might not be your lucky day but there is no harm in trying. Though I think if you are struggling on £28 grand with two I think you may need to look at your outgoings.
We are a family of 6 with an income of about £10,000. We have debts of £50,000+. WE are struggling, but we do manage to get by because we have just what we need rather than want.
Apply for housing and council tax benefit. They can only say No. |

I wish I had £28 grand a year coming in, it makes our income looks meagre, BUT, we have a good life, we are not wasteful, we are happy and content and bless all that we have. I think you need to take a good look at yourselves!! |
|

Emma
 |
Absolutely not, on that wage you should not be struggling you obviously need to take a good look at what you spend your money on, and the was good advice what the other person said don't have kids until your better off! |

You would both have to be sacked from your jobs to be entitled to unemployment benefit which is at the moment around £56 per week. (£112 combined)
If you were entitled to income support which depends on your savings - no more than £5,000, you would have your rent paid. (But rents are paid according to what the DWP feels they are worth and not what the landlord charges!)
If you were entitled to a Council tax rebate - this would again be means tested.
So give it a go. Pay your gas, electric, phone, and any other standing orders you have out of your £112 and see how much you have left.
Good luck |
