incredible. turbotax online is like 9.95, and there are a few that are free but don't get you as much back. |

yes.
if you check out irs.gov, you can find some places you can file for free electronically. There are company links on the IRS web site to all the free files out there, and you choose the company you want to use.
For years ive used H&R blocks' free filing that is subsidized by the government. File instantly, refunds direct deposited & in my bank account 8 to 15 days...
And all for free...
Cant beat that. |

yes! you could have probably EASILY done turbo tax on your own online for FREE! (for federal) or $25 if you wanted state and federal. make sure to do that next year. until you have a mortgage, investments, dependants, things like that, theres no reason you cant do your taxes easily on your own. turbo tax is written so that someone at the 6th grade level can understand it. |

well DUH.... you can do it free with taxact.com....state taxes cost to file but not federal as long as you don't have anything special... |

its about right.... next time try doing it yourself... I use
https://www.taxactonline.com/
cost me $16.95 fed and state.
by the way, it's not a refund... it's your money... you let the government have it all year for free. |

yes you are getting ripped off.....get a tax program like turbo tax. Straightforward tax filing isn't hard. If you use something like the 1040EZ, it is entirely within your ability to do it yourself.
Better yet- The IRS will do it for you! Find their local office online, give 'em a call and tell them what you want to do. The IRS is not your enemy!! |

It's pretty standard. No matter what your refund amount is, they're doing the same amount of work.
If you don't itemize, it would be a money saver for you to just file a 1040 EZ on your own. |

You could have filed it yourself electronically through your computer for free. Get refund in a couple of weeks. |

If you are prepared to answer a few questions, you can try online filing. Essentially the same process, but you are answering to a computer program.. and most of them have live person support too. Prices start at $14.95.
Even the people you already did your taxes with, essentially input your information into a computer program - go figure!!!

Do your own taxes. It's not that hard. And filing is free for most people. |

No. That's their rates: $125 to $300 plus. |

That is about what I would expect from a chair prep company. Your refund is totally irrelevant. |

If you trust yourself enough to do it then go ahead and do it but don't go crying if you get auditted and have to cough up thousands of dollars to hire an EA or CPA or lawyer to represent you to the IRS. |

If you had self employment, your return is a little more complicated than one with just a W-2 or a couple of them, so you'd pay more for the preparation. $150 doesn't seem out of line. |

turbo tax softwere is $50.00 and easy to use. $100 to $200 is going rate for most places. |

If you're filing SE (self-employed) 1099s, expect any tax preparer to charge you much more than someone with a w-2. It can easily go into the hundreds even if you didn't make a lot of money.
If you tried to file a Schedule C on your own and got confused, then you had to go to a real person for help. Hopefully you'll learn how to file a Schedule C after this so you can just buy Turbotax next year and do it yourself. |
