Miss Schlonky is right. I would say that you completed your Tax File Number declaration incorrectly and stated that you are non-resident for tax purposes.
This means you would not receive the tax-free threshold and also be taxed at 29c in the dollar. You can check this out by using the ATOs tax withheld calculator http://www.ato.gov.au/scripts/taxcalc/calc_standard_hire.asp
To fix get your hands on a withholding declaration http://www.ato.gov.au/corporate/content.asp?doc=/content/17332.htm and complete correctly and give back to your employer.
Unfortunately you will need to wait until after 30 June to lodge a tax return to get the tax that you have overpaid back
Hope this helps |

This is an answer from an Aussie.
Ask your employer what you ticked on your employment declaration. Are you a non resident or have you not claimed the tax free threshold for this job? Those factors would make you taxed at a higher amount. If none apply, you possibly you should have netted about $261. Without the tax free threshold, $236. As a non-resident, $204. So it sounds like you have been taxed as a non resident. |

$80 = about 27% tax, usually that's not too odd for someone making a decent amount, at least in America (not too sure how different Australia is).
If, however, your income bracket gets taxed considerably less than 27%, you are right they are taxing you in the wrong bracket and you need to first talk with company and then, if they say government has put you in that bracket, contact the government about it. I do know that, in America, with that pay per hour and only 21 hours a week you would not be taxed nearly that much.
Another possibility, if you taxes seem to high (Medicare, SSI, etc.) is that you will get most of your $80 or so back at the end of the year as a tax refund. |

Wow you all get paid alot on hour.
I don't know what your tax rate is in Australia, but if you lived in the United States, they would take about that much for federal and state taxes, plus medicare and social security. I don't know if you guys have these things or not.
But I calculated it up, and before taxes you should have $288.10. |

Depends on the tax rates in australia, but i doubt that they would have such a high rate on such a low payment, here in the US i got $103 off due to taxes off a a gross pay of $587.25 and im 19 yr old. but i would see the who handles payroll to clear it up. |
