Chris
Am i eligable to recieve working tax credits?
i'm 25. i live with my friend and i earn £16000 a year. My mate seems to think i am but i'm not so sure.

The-she
go onto the inland revenue website or contact the 0845 300 3900 & check, but i don't think you are eligable for working tax credits, it dosen't cost anything to give it a try & it's better in your pocket than in theres.
good luck

to claim Working Tax Credit (WTC), you must be aged 25 or over and work at least 30 hours per week. At £16,000 a year i'm assuming you meet those criteria, so your mate is probably right.
however WTC is a means tested benefit, which simply means it is not one set rate, but is calculated from your income, so although you may be 'eligible' you may not be entitled to any money!
you could work out a rough estimate using the calculations but my best advice would be to get a claim pack and apply.
You can get one by calling the tax credit helpline 0845 300 3900 8am-8pm or sometimes jobcentres and citizen's advice bureaux have some and it's really simple to complete.
see this link for more info http://taxcredits.direct.gov.uk/what_working_eligible.html

Working Tax Credits are for people on a low income you don't need to have kids to claim this but you do need kids to claim child tax credit.

BUT

If you are 25 or over and have no children and your income is more than £12,000 you probably won't qualify.

Take a look at this tax credit guide:-

cyfcupcake
type into google tax credit calculator, it will ask u series of questions, answer them truthfuly and it will tell u there and then if and what u r entitled to. It takes about 7 mins to complete, i did 1 last nite.

I'm very sorry Chris but no you're not, you'd qualify as you're 25 and over, however you NEED to be earning LESS than £15,000 per year and either have children or a disability that puts you at a disadvantage in work, so sorry if that's not what you wanted to hear but I do wish you all the best hun

Take care.

Two criterias for eligiblity

1) You have to be over 16, with a child(ren) and working over 16 hours per week

or

2) Aged 25 or over and work 30 hours or more a week

So....as your are 25 and IF you do work 30 or more hours per week...yes you can claim and you will be awarded £46.62 per week in working tax credits. Contact inland revenue
