la428282 | Am i missing something? Why do people think this is complicated? |
This is my first year not having mommy and daddy do my taxes haha... and.. i cant believe how easy it is.
I just went on turbotax.com and did the free version.. and bam.. 10 minutes later i was done.
Now, my lifes pretty simple. I had two jobs over this year... plus student loan interest that i had to list... and i dont own a home or have dependents or anything.
I just wanna make sure im not missing anything... it seemed.. wayy to easy. Is it just more complicated for some people once you have dependents and stuff? is there any reason i should have gone to a tax person?
thanks! |

No, you're fine doing it yourself. It gets more complicated than that for many people, though. Mine used to be a huge headache as I had a home business. |

Taxes have been simplified over the years... thank goodness to the "computer age" we live in. And with Turbo Tax or other IRS official sites... it's become easier for the single person or the couple with no deductions to do their taxes in a breeze. Of course the bigger responsibilities one has the more complicated it can become. I wouldn't play with that, I'd go to a professional and one that will stand behind you should one get audited. That's for the complicated forms. Good luck to you. |

It can be a lot more complicated than yours is, but for most people is pretty simple but many people are afraid of it. |

For yours is easy. But some people have itemized deduction, house sold and purchased, short/long term investment, these tends to be more complicated. |

i filed and completed my taxes online for years, and it is simple. it gets a little more complicated once you have children, deductible expenses, a home business etc. but it can still be done online. i have a second job and am self employed, and have some questions about how much i can claim and things like that, but once i get my taxes done, and learn what i need to know, i will go back to doing my taxes online. i tell everyone to check out the online ways of doing their taxes, because it walks you through it and that they should not have any problems, as long as their paperwork is in order. |

that's right all there is to it, but add stock sale, home business purchase or sale of a home children itemized deductions it does get a little more difficult but with turbotax honestly it still is easy i remember when my dad did it the old fashion way with a pencil it took him days now it takes minutes thanks turbotax

It is easy! I have 2 kids and a husband and student loan info all kinds of that stuff and it is still easy. I think when people have a hard time it is because they are trying to get tons of tax write offs and they have past taxes they havnt done for years then they have to find all kinds of paper work for those... honestly it seems to me that if its hard for you then you screwed up in the past taxes and thats why. |

LOL. That's the big secret -- if you take your time and read the instructions carefully, and you don't have anything complicated like an inheritance or big investments or a business or something -- doing your taxes really *IS* easy.
Welcome to the grownup world! I am making my 18-year-old do her own taxes this year instead of doing them for her and I hope when she's done she says the same thing you say! |
