it's easier to find work than in some other fields - especially temp work during times of unemployment and accounting jobs pay pretty well in general, but there are new deadlines every month/week/qtr, high pressure at times, lots of govt crap to deal with (and corporate crap - if you're owned by another company) forget vacation at the beginning of any month, must like working with numbers, boring meetings if your in mgmt, yada yada yada |

Being an accountant is good - there are a lot of different jobs available in accounting, so it can suit most preferences. If you like interacting with people and going out to different places a lot, then an auditor is a good job. You have clients that you go to and you review their statements for accuracy. It is good work but can involve long hours, especially during the months of Jan-Mar. If you don't like the sounds of that then you could be a general ledger clerk, tax accountant, financial analyst, etc. Tons of different types of jobs, ranging from low-paying clerk positions to high-paying senior level jobs. I like it. |

I was one but got out of it as quickly as possible. There are lots of different types of accountant. It can be a good grounding for doing other things - that's how I used it. But pure accountancy, which in my mind means being an auditor with a big firm, seemed incredibly dull to me. My recommendation would be to consider it, but have a plan for getting out! |
