Any suggestions on how I can file an amended personal income tax return?
1, I'm a US citizen. 2. I have legal expenses from 2004 and 2005, which I never claimed on my personal tax return. 3. Can you recommend a site or a publication that would be helpful.

The form is a 1040X. You can find this usually at your local library or you can print one offline at IRS.gov. I am not sure what legal expenses you have, but usually they are not deductable, unless they were accured in the process of adopting a child. You should check with an accountant or Tax Proffessional.

Get hold of your local IRS office.

Normally you can't claim legal expenses. About the only ones you could claim would be expenses for tax advice.

If you'll explain here a little more fully just what those legal expenses were for, someone can probably tell you whether they'd be deductible or not.

If you filed a 1040, the ammended return is a 1040X. Just follow the directions. You may have waited too long.

Legal expenses for what? These may be fully deductible as business expenses, partly deductible as personal expenses or not deductible at all depending on the circumstances.

Go to turbo tax you can download the software for a fee and do it yourself it is real simple and it ask you if you want to do an amended return

If you haven't already, go to www.irs.gov, and search for "amended return."
Be careful, you may flag yourself for an audit.
If you heard about this approach from some radio or TV show, or some friend told you to do this, just forget it.
Chalk it up as a donation for the good of your country.

IRS.GOV has all the forms. I think you can only go back 2 years though.
