C J | Anybody know if you owe the I.R.S. money, will you still get the rebate?? |
From what i can tell, the rebate is treated differently than a regular refund. Since they claim I owe them, they always keep my refunds, but are they going to keep my "rebate" too? |

Yes they will. They will take your rebate to offset what you owe. It is treated the same as a regular refund. Sorry. |

From all I have read about the stimulus checks, if you owe back taxes , back child support ,student loans in deferment ,etc. Your checks will be garnished. |

Here is an excerpt from the IRS which specifically addresses your question:
Excerpt from the IRS:
Q. I'm eligible for a payment but I still owe federal income tax from a prior year. Will my payment be reduced?
A. Yes. For this purpose, the Stimulus Payment is treated like any other tax refund. This means that part or all of your payment can be used to pay past-due federal or state income taxes or non-tax federal debt such as student loans and child support. |

They're not stupid - they're not going to send you a dime (unless you owe less than the rebate amount). They may send you a letter saying thanks for your payment, it's been applied to your balance, though.
If their "claim" is incorrect, you should get to work on disputing it. |

NOPE, not treated differently.
YEP, they'll take it to help you pay off your obligations. |

It isn't treated differently in regard to offsets. If you owe money that they'd take a refund towards, they'll take the stimulus payment toward it also. |

Most likely. I have not heard for sure. Beside, 'W' wants us to spend that money. |

YES you will get the rebate, but if you owe then the IRS might take out what you owe, and send you the rest. If you owe more then the rebate is worth, then they will reduce what you owe |
