I had been going to Jackson Hewitt for years, then decided to try H&R Block since their holiday loan program started earlier this year. I was denied! I had to correct their employee twice while she was preparing my return. She also couldn't tell me what the qualifications were as to why I was denied. Seems like they don't really provide the needed training, etc. Hopefully I will have better luck Friday at Jackson Hewitt being a former customer. Just wanted to know if anyone had any similar experiences...

yup i just went there and came back pissed ive been going to hnr block for years this is the first time ive ever been denied i went in with all my paystubs, and because i recently lost my job they cant give me my advance.. that makes no sense what does me losing my job now have anything to do with what ive earned all year... she even told me what my tax return total was... this sux i really needed that advance |

Go back to Jackson Hewitt, they have holiday money starting Friday, and the process favors their last two year's customers.
Usually the bank mails you a letter stating why you were declined, but the preparer has NO knowledge of why. |

This year at HR Block you do not have to be a prior client to qualify. You have to have a minimum of 10k income and there is some credit check but it has to be really bad. At our HR Block office if you are denied it prints out a letter right then. No waiting for it in the mail. I have had many more approvals than denials. All the denials have been for excessively bad credit. You need to bring in a pay stub from the last 30 days. IF you are not a prior client also bring in your 2007 return. Self employed bring in your Schedule C info.
At Jackson Hewitt you apply and they give you a card. Then you have to call the number on the back of the card then next day to see if you were approved and if so for how much. So I am told. |

I would figure that Jackson Hewitt is no better. I almost worked for them but they were not willing to pay the commission I was used to . It tells you something about what quality talent they have.
H & R Block has a bank, so you know what type of issues they must be having. |

yes and i have been going to them for the last year. It said that i did have enough income and i made well over the 10,000 requirement they said it was a technical issue that they had to reset the computer and for me to come back monday. |

I havent tried to do the advance yet but I know someone who has been with hr block for years and did the loan last year and has bad credit and got approved for 800 this year so there is hope for people with bad credit ..if you really need it just go and try you never know |

yes I was also denied today. When i called i told them that we had bad bad credit and they said all we do is a soft credit check. Well my hubby and I were told our estimated refund for this year will be 7,843.00 and then the next click said we were denied. I believe that everything happens for a reason!! The Equifax report stated to many inquiries in 12 months (just got a 2007 explorer 2 months ago) so maybe diff banks ran my credit. Also too many new accounts in last 12 months. (apartment? alltel? truck? I DUNNO but oh well i will just have to wait for my refund and make due for christmas. |

I have bad credit my score is like 400 and I got $800.00 today from HR Block. I don't know what they are looking for on the credit check but they told me they were looking for bankruptcy , money owed to the IRS , money owed to HR Block or its bank and back child support issues. Don't just think you can't get it because you have bad credit. I was discouraged after reading these posts , but I decided to go anyways and it was worth my time. I was only charges $ 45.00 for $800.00 and set it up so that it automatically gets paid with my income tax refund. If you are in a money crunch I think its worth it. |

I just called HR Block 1-800 # and asked if they where doing credit checks, the guy said yes, cause this year the amount is higher. He said if you have bad credit you will probably be disqualified. I called the office that we are going to and asked same question, she said everyone that's been there has been approved and only 1 denial.
We have an appointment later today and keeping fingers crossed. |

Most likely you didn't get approved because you haven't been and H and R block customer i had the same problem last year and was told one of the qualifications were that you had to have filed you taxes with them within the last two years. So Jackson Hewitt will probably work for you. |
