Your child must UNDER 17 as of 12/31/07 to qualify. Is that what caused it?
< additional info >
The two most obvious possibilities are:
1) Your tax liability (line 44 of form 1040) was EXACTLY $900. This would be an odd coincidence and seems unlikely.
2) For some reason the IRS has disallowed the credit for your child. I would double check your return and make sure your bab's social security number was entered correctly. |

I have heard a few people say they got the wrong amount and some amounts were odd amounts like one person recieved $728.00. I would give them a call and ask. It could just be a typo on their part and someone forgot to add the child amount.
Good luck |

Not every married couple gets $1200, that's the MOST you can get not counting the amount for your child. The most you get for yourselves is your net federal income tax for 2007. So the amount could be a mistake, but more likely your tax was low enough you weren't entitled to the maximum amount. From the IRS website, "Your net income tax liability is one of the following:
On Form 1040, the amount shown on Line 57 plus the amount on Line 52;
On Form 1040A, the amount shown on Line 35 plus the amount on Line 32; or
On Form 1040EZ, the amount on Line 10.
The most you get for you and your spouse is the amount of your net tax liability as calculated above. |

The actual amount depends on the information contained on your tax return. Eligible individuals will receive between $300 and $600. Those who are eligible and file a joint return will receive a total of between $600 and $1,200. Those with children will get an additional $300 for each qualifying child. To qualify, a child must be eligible under the Child Tax Credit and have a valid Social Security number. |

If you check the "Where's My Stimulus Payment" it breaks down the amount they deposited. If it doesn't look right call them and if they made a mistake from what I understand they'll fix it. |

ok well on the calculator it does say that you could end up with less. I am married filing jointly with 2 children and the stupid calculator tells me we'll only get 1200. |

Some taxpayers may receive smaller economic stimulus payments than they anticipated. By law, the stimulus payments are offset to satisfy past-due taxes, student loans, child support and certain other debts.
In most cases, payments will range from $300 to $600 for individuals and $600 to $1200 for joint filers. Taxpayers may receive $300 for each qualifying child. Payments could be less, depending on tax liabilty and Adjusted Gross Income.
So..it depends on tax liability and AGI. |
