Tax codes for the following April start being issued the second week in January to allow taxpayers to appeal and get it sorted if they think it is wrong.
It wouldn't hurt to check with tax office about employer's name. I can imagine two scenarios.
1. When Kelly Services sent in a P45 for a new employee, your National Insurance number was for some reason incorrectly keyed in. Could have been the operator's mistake, could be wrong National Insurance number on P45. Your record would have been erroneously transferred to new employer.
2. You may know your employer as, say, Mr Smith. Is it possible he could be trading under the name Kelly Services (perhaps Ltd)? |

It is normal practise for tax codes to be sent out well in advance of the start of the new financial year, so I would not be too concerned about that aspect, unless you shows allowances that you don't think you are entitled to, or misses others that you do have. However, the fact that it refers to a company for which you do not, and never have, worked is worrying. You must ring the tax office concerned immediately. Incidentally, does the notice of coding come from the office which normally deals with your affairs? Does it have your correct tax and NI numbers on it? The latter, at least, should be on your pay slips. |
