Yes, Federal employees pay federal income taxes and social security taxes. My GF works for the Veterans Adminsitration and those taxes are withheld from her paycheck.

Judy1
Of course. Why wouldn't they be?

jj88
yes, they have to pay taxes like every citizen in the united states.

Yes, everyone who works for the government pay all the taxes that normal civilians pay.

income tax
SS Tax
State tax

Gary
Even the President of the United States pays income taxes.

All Federal employees, including the military, pay Federal taxes.

And for the folks who think that Federal employees don't pay into Social Security, that USED to be the case but that was changed DECADES ago. Most current Federal employees most certainly DO pay into Social Security now! Under the old Civil Service Retirement System, Federal employees did not participate in SS but under the current Federal Employees Retirement System they certainly do! http://www.opm.gov/fers_election/ri_90/f_ss.htm

Yes, but they do not pay social security taxes, the pay Ipers or another Government retirement account.
Federal workers are not able to draw social security, they have a special account for federal emplyees. The same is true with Postal employees and State and County workers.

To someone who answered, all government employees do not pay all taxes everyone else does. MOST government employees do NOT pay into Social Security, but pay into their own retirement fund. It is required they pay into this, but all the money they pay goes into an account that is theirs that they can get into when they retire.
