We pay income tax to support public services on a national and local level, but no secret has been made of the fact that money is constantly diverted for other purposes such as bailing out incompetent industries like the banks and the airlines, and the payments to ineffectual consultancies and inappropriate expenses.
Since this is a blatant misuse of these taxes... shouldn't we all be claiming a refund? |

Refund!!!!!? Good god, we're nearly bust already!
But you make a good point: once governments realised they could raid National Insurance funds then the Treasury took precedence over all other departments and now can squander our money willy-nilly.
This new coalition government has (for a reason best only known to themselves) 'ring-fenced' overseas aid. Along with every government since 1944, our current 'masters' cannot find in their hearts to 'ring fence' National Insurance payments for health/pension/unemployment benefits - it's as if our poor don't count. |

Unfortunately all taxes now go into a central fund - hence the reason why road tax is not spent on the roads and the councils spend a fortune providing tarmac for road humps but can't seem to find the money for tarmac to fill holes! |
