Are we getting another one?
I have heard rumors that Obama is going to give us another stimulus check, is that true?! Also When we go to file our 2008 taxes do we have to file the stimulus check we got last year? Or do we have to report it or show the tax prep people. I know a friend of the family's she works for H&R Block and she said we need to show her the the check stub from the stimulus check but if we don't have to report it then why do we have to show them proof on how much we got back?! Just curious.

Don't hold your breath on getting another stimulus check.

If you didn't qualify last year for a full stimulus check, and qualify for more this year, then you'd get it - that's why the preparer will ask what you got last year. If you qualify for $1200 based on your 2008 return, but got $1200 last year, then it won't affect your return this year. There's a line on the return in the payments section this year that says recovery rebate credit. If you already got all that you qualify for, that will be zero which means you don't get any more this year, and you don't have to show any proof. If you qualify for $1200 this year but only qualified for and got $900 last year, then they'd probably want to see the form that was sent to you last year before putting the extra $300 into your refund - you remember that form you got last year saying how much you'd get, the one that said keep this form to use with your 2008 return? The form that tax preparers will probably be lucky if 1/3 of the people really bring in?

of course it's true, because obama is going to "save us all". and, we are sooooo far into debt, the only way to "save us all" is to give out more money! we've already bailed out the mortgage industry and the auto industry. why not keep giving out and giving out and giving out? that will "save us all". oh. let's not forget the war criminals and terrorists in gitmo. he's shutting gitmo down. gotta save them, too!

You have to report all income, then prove that it is not taxable. Taxes are the only point where you are considered guilty until provin innocent.

By the way, Congress determines what money is given away not the president. Also, what good is a stimulus check if the government takes your money in the form of taxes and then gives some of it back to stimulate the economy? wouldn't it have been better for the economy not to take it from you in the first place since the whole time the government has your money it is out of circulation and doing no one any good?

Details of what they are going to do is still hacking its way through Congress... with people lining up on every side of the issue and trying to make input into the "final decision"....
You will be reporting the check that you received... this is why the tax prep people "want to see the check stub" ... it is for the entry that will be made....

No, it's headed toward being a tax credit on your 2009 taxes, and not a check.

The result is lower tax withholdings during the year.

hrblockrobyn
First the new economic stimulus package is not expected
to be passed until mid-February and at this point, it is
focussed on certain credits that will be taken on your 2009
tax return and not take the form of a check in the summer,
as we experienced last year. That all is of course subject to
change until the package is passed by Congress and
signed into law by the President.
On the second issue, you do NOT have to show us the check
stub. It is much easier than that: the IRS has on its website
a hot link that shows you exactly what you received. And I
will add that H&R Block's website for tax professionals has
this link also so I'm surprised to hear someone claiming we
need to ask clients to show payment stubs. Perhaps there
was a miscommunication.
The only reason we need to know how much you received is
because, if you did not receive as much as you should have,
you get the rest on your 2008 tax return. If you got what you
should have, or got more than you should have, there is NO
adjustment on your 2008 taxes.

You were asked for the amount that you received for the rebate so that they could check to see if you received the correct amount. the rebate was based on 2007 but for 2008 so if you received less than the correct amount, you will get it this year. If you received more than the correct about, you do not have to pay it back.

I heard that also. But i also heard that once the stimulus check is given; a couple months after, they just take that money back so you actually get nothing...
