This Government assumes we won't notice indirect taxes. No wonder they are downgrading education in the hope that the population won't catch on to these things. The better educated we are, the more we understand! They are much better than taking our money than spending it correctly. It seems to me that everything goes into black holes with no accounting.
It is getting to the point that soon they will take all our money and assets, and hand out pocket money. New Labour? More like Communism. |

I'm half expecting the government to announce that they are going to take *all* our money and give us pocket money for doing the vacuuming! |

I think so. And we're also paying a lot more for almost everything. It's a rip-off society that we live in. I think big businesses here have bigger profit margins than those elsewhere. It often makes me wonder how we make ends meet with our meagre salaries. |

Some of us are.
It's not as simple as how much tax we pay but the balance of tax and benefits. Some people complain about the tax they pay but may get loads of benefits such as Family Allowance, child tax credit, subsidised housing, subsidised council tax, subsidised childcare .... and so on. Some people make greater use of the facilities and services our tax pays for - education, leisure, health etc.
As a professional married couple with no children, I feel the tax we are paying is excessive in relation to the benefits we are receiving. Our council tax alone is over £200 per month .
I certainly feel over taxed. Of any extra money I earn, about half goes in tax and national insurance. It is a dis-incentive to be enterprising. Paying that much tax would feel less unjust if I had adequate access to NHS medical care when needed and if we had a decent road network that was not falling apart. At least I use those things ... or I would if they were fit for purpose. |

Yep, I believe ......and I may be wrong that the only other countries in the world that are more expensive than us are Italy and Germany!..........but that could be wrong now! |

If anything that makes money is given away (privatisation) then how else can we get funds? |
|

Yes very much so!
I think people in prisons should be required to earn their keep. Immigrants and asylum seekers should (be allowed to) work and earn their keep. Employers should be rewarded for employing local people so that parents can work close to home and be home in time to collect kids from school ecouraging parents to work. Child benefits should stop when kids start school and the parent can then go to work. Why should I pay for them. Government people should get the minimum wage that they say we should be able to live on. The royal family should have standard council houses and their palaces used to provide accomodation to homeless people, who can then get jobs.
Then I won't have to pay so much tax and may be able to afford to use the leisure centre that was built using money from taxes I paid in. |

YES
I worked it out several years ago when our total tax rate was about half what it is now that we were paying 75% of our incomes straight back to the government! In theory then today we are paying the government about 1.5 times whatever we earn. Yes that feels about right and explains why the average person in this counry is so b***dy poor! |

Any time the government is in charge of providing the bulk of basic essentials it is not going to be an efficient use of money, so in that regard you may be. But, that's the cost of living in a civilized community with basic services provided to all, regardless of income... education, healthcare, streets, fire protection, etc. |

I don't think so
just have a look at other countries services like national health, education, housing etc..
even the states don´t have national health service which is scary. |
