Are you entitled to jobseekers allowance whilst on holiday?
Will i get paid jobseekers whilst im away im holiday.

I stupidly told the jobcentre that i have a new job that will start 18th august, so could i still expect to be paid.

When i come back of holiday, i can still attend a signing on date before starting my new job, but im worried that i have sabotaged my chances of getting paid up until the day i start work.

It depends

You don't say where you are going or for how long

People on JSA must be 'available for, capable of and actively seeking employment'

You can have a two week holiday if you tell Jobcentre Plus in advance. This applies only to the 'actively seeking part' ie two weeks when you don't have to look for work. As part of this they can ask you to sign at another jobcentre. You have to agree if offered a job you would come home and take up the offer ie you are still available

This only applies if you holiday within the UK

If you are going abroad your JSA stops as you are no longer 'available for work' and to get any means tested benefit you must be 'resident and present' in the UK

sorry I think everyone may have misread this, is this will you get paid as you have a job to start rather tahn anbout the holiday? If so then of course you do, they don't stop paying you just beacuse you have founfd work. you will be paid up to the day before you start your new job. You should declare the holiday thing, but if you haven't who is to know ;)

Jac
yes you can still claim, a friends son was going on holiday to Spain and he told them about it and the person he spoke to said that if he was asked where he going to say somewhere in the UK otherwise he wouldnt be eligible for payment for that time

Alex G
Despite all the above dumb answers you CAN still claim jobseeker's allowance as everybody is entitled to a holiday whether they are in employment or not.

You are not looking for a job while you are on vacation. If you are unemployed, you are not eligible for paid vacation leave. Hope you enjoy your new job.

That's why they called it JobSEEKER's allowance - it's for people seeking a job, not for people on holiday.

yeah, scrounging's not as straight forward as you might think is it?

Yes you have to be available for work to get the benefit, People on the benefit are not supposed to have a holiday, or to be able to afford a holiday.

If you can afford to go on holiday you shouldn't be claiming jobseekers. You're supposed to declare savings. You can't claim if you're outside the UK.
