No-Social Security has already been taxed throughout your lifetime from every paycheck you have had that contribusted to you Social Security-
Bottom line-They have already taxed it before, they cannot do it again

If SS is your only income it's generally not taxable. If you have other income such as a pension, dividends, interest, earned income from a job, etc. then some of your SS may be taxable.

Take 1/2 of your SS benefits and add that to all of your other income. If the total is $25,000 or more if your filing status is Single or $32,000 or more if your filing status is Married Filing Jointly, or $0 or more if your filing status is Married Filing Separately then up to 85% of your SS benefit MAY be taxable.

There's a worksheet on page 80 of IRS Pub 17 that will help you determine how much of your Social Security is taxable if any of it is taxable at all. Here's a link to Pub 17: http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p17.pdf

Social security is only taxable if half of your social security plus all of your other income exceeds a limit that depends on your filing status - then some of your ss, up to 85% of it, is taxed. If ss is your only income, or you have only a few thousand dollars of other income, then no you don't pay tax on it.

If that is your only income, no. If you have other taxable income, perhaps yes. Look in the section of the instructions for Form 1040 that deals with calculating what portion of social security benefits is taxable.

when you are on social security you can make an additional 10,000 dollars without being taxed. My parents are on SS now and they DO NOT pay taxes on it because they don't have any other income! Please speak with the local SS office in your area.

Yes, but Obama will do away with that. It's one of the policies he's been speaking about.
