while ever you havenot claimed tax credits you have been missing out on approx £125 a week when you do apply on the phone number given below dont forget to ask for the calaimd to be backdated when you first claimed income support they should have told you all about tax credits
and further contary to what someone as stated you dont get the amount deducted from the benefit you are recieving.
the local offices stopped giving benefits for children approx five years ago and payment for children was taken over by the inland revenue
and take no notice of funky munkey you are not claiming working tax credits she as not got a clue what she is on about. you are claiming child tax credits a completely different beneifit |

i get child tax credits, but they stopped all my rent rebate as the kids dad was supposed to pay me £127per week ( which he does not) they took the amount into account when working out rent,(even though i didnt receive any) so i didnt get rebate. but if dad pays then you will get that money to cover rent etc rather than the government get it. and yes you will get it cause all single parents have to get it eventually, so no choice. |

I copied this from the website below, which is the CAB public site.It may answer any other queries you may have too.
Child Tax Credit is a payment for people with children, whether they are in or out of work. It is paid by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC). You can get Child Tax Credit if your income is low enough and you are responsible for at least one child. You will get money from Child Tax Credit for each child. You do not need to have a very low income to get some help from Child Tax Credit, so most people with children get the credit.
The children must be in full time education. (ie; school or college for at least 12 hours per week) |

As you are in receipt of income support then you are already receiving the child tax credits as it is part of it.
Check with DWP for certain
Only other benefits you may be entitled to housing and council tax benefit if you rent.. |
