Benefit help??
my partner and i live in a council home, my partner has lost his job but i still work part-time 19 hours at minimum wage, we have a young child. Also i was wondering if my partner and i are entitled to any benefit during the period he is out of work?
will we be entitled to housing benefit?

Hi I work for benefits, yes you will be able to claim benefits for housing and council tax but depending on your earnings you may not get all of it paid.
You can claim working tax credit and child tax credit
if your partner has been working for more than 52 weeks he will be able to claim the contribution based JSA, unlike JSA(IB), JSA(C) is based on how much NI stamp he has paid while working and he will get this reguardless of any other income you have, he can claim this for a maximum of 26 weeks or until he finds a new job.
Try not to delay claiming as if you don't have your form in within 4 weeks of him stopping work they will only pay from the following monday.
Add up all your income, make a not of your rent and council tax amounts you pay then visit the link below for a calculation you can do yourself online (although its not a claim for benefit but will tell u if u are entitled)
hope this is helpful

You will probably be entitled to housing benefit & working tax credits. Contact your local job centre as they will be able to give you up to date advice, help you fill out any forms & process your claim for you. The housing benefit form may have to be obtained from your local town hall but again the job centre advisor will be able to help you there. ☺

or go to your benift office/ ring local council

Go to the benefit office now or ring them if you've got one of those types of offices. You need to apply for council tax/housing benefit asap and he needs to sign on because of National Insurance credits at least. I can't see how you can be expected to pay rent, council tax, bills and buy food if you're on part-time minimum wage.

you should be entitled to housing benefit, council tax benefit, your partner should be able to apply for job seekers allowance, plus maybe free dental treatment and prescriptions while he's of work.
The local job center plus should be able to tell him what he should be able to claim for.

probably not
do you get working family tax credit and child tax credit?
ring them and get it recalculated
then ring your local welfare rights advice line to check if you will qualify for any housing/council tax benefit
in my experience you probably wont as having WFTC and CTC just takes you over the eligible amount for that

Telephone Jobseekers plus for you partner to register as unemployed as soon as possible.A claim can only backdated for a short time.He may be entitled to Job seekers allowance for 6 months depending on his national insurance contribution record. When he gets an appointment they will advise as to what benefits you may be entitled to.Also contact your local housing and council tax benefits department straight away.So that if you are entitled to any benefit from them it canbe backdated to the date that you made the claim.
