bow | British Tax Credits - Driving me mad please help!!!? |
Back in September we recived a letter saying Tax Credits owed us £599.67
I phoned and they said a payment had been sent - This was a massive relife my partener only earns £80 per week as an apprentice electrcian so this money would be a life saver.
Any way the money never turned up and it turns out they had paid into into an old bank account of ours that is now closed.
Tax credits said they money had been returned by the bank and would be reprosssed and sent back to us.
We are now in November and have never seen this money.
We must phone every other day to track its progress and they tell us that it is being delt with phone back another time to find out what is happning.
A few times we have spoke to the odd person who thinks this is out of order and they promise to make it there personal issue to resolve. But again nothing comes of this and we can not get hold of the person that said would help.
We are banging our head against a brick wall
What would you do? |

ask for the names of who you are talking to, and take them down, some times this jogs them in to action, or go to citizens advice |

Try one more time on helpline number, I know stupid name cos they don't really help, get the name of who your speaking to & which centre they work in, try & tie them down to when you can expect this money back. Then go straight to your MP & tell them this is what your doing, hopefully this will make the helpline actually help you.

I would contact them again and this time dont put phone down aske to speck to a supervisor or manager say you have being promised several times will be resolved and it has not
dont get to angry as they can hang up on you just be firm and say sorry but am not getting of the line until I get a straight answer
and go a high as you need to until resolved ask them to check when the money was received back to them and can they see if in there system
but simple do not let them come of the phone to you as you found out they do nothing once call put down
if they try to fob you off say sorry but want sorted today and wont be putting phone down and NO CALL BACK wanted sort it out now coz if the they would want money owed to them there and then this is your money go get it and would help with xmas also so stand your ground |

Tax credit office is famous for being slow. I've seen people wait alot longer then you . You don't say if your recieving regular payments from tco and if the money your waiting for is a back payment or not.If it is a back payment your local office can not replace it , their not allowed . If your not reciving any money it's possible to get a hardship payment from them.Staging a sit in will not help , the people in your local office have had alot of power taken off them with tax credits so they are unable to move the payment along. I'm sorry , i really do feel for you if you want more information contact me direct i'll do all i can for you. |

when ihad trouble with the tax credits,i sent a letter by recorded delivery totheir head office in Preston and explained what was happening. also i threatened to go to the local ombudsmen to get my complaint resolved. i got my money within a week. |

Tax Credits are a big joke. We are still having problems. Its them at fault not you.
Please note that CAB are very limited in what they can done. Some areas can help and others cannot.
This is what I did.
Go to your local tax office. Go NOW OR tomorrow. You may have to make an appointment but go and do it. They cannot ignore you when you go in. They have to sort it out.
Do not let them fob you off.
Take all your paperwork and sit on the floor if you have to. I did and I got a payment that day. Tell them EVERYTHING.
You will have to prove financial hardship but do it and if not tell them that you will be taking if further.
They are really giving you the run around and if you stand up to them they will back down.
I'd also ask for compensation for your telephone bill.

go to the citizens advice bureau with a list of times and dates that you have called along with a list of the names of those people that you have spoke to if possible. The cab should then be willing to make some calls and write on your behalf and hopefully resolve the matter for you |

You must send all this information to the head office by recorded delivery.
I had similar problems for months was only resolved by letter, we were also given £84 compensation for the stress.
