By when does a child need to be born inorder to be able to claim on income tax?
the baby was born on 11/07/07

Your baby must be born by 12/31/07 to become a tax deduction for this year, when you fill out your tax records, you must have a social security # for your kid (which you fill out at the hospital usually) and they forward you the # from the government. Even though it says if the child only lived with you part of the year, you may only take half or no deduction... With a newborn this does not apply. You get to take the entire credit. Went through this last year with my little one..... Congratulations!!!!!!

A child born as late as 12/31/07 will be claimed as a dependent on their parents' 2007 tax return.

That qualifies. Even on the last day of the year at the last instant would qualify for being a 2007 child and a 2007 tax deduction.

dormi22
anytime during the year even if it was born 12/31/2007

The cutoff is the end of the tax year, so 12/31. Congratulations!

Before midnight on 12/31. The baby born in November made it in plenty of time to be claimed for the year.

These people are all wrong. Actually, unknown to many, if the child is born by 1/1/xx he can be claimed as a dependent for the previous year. On your tax return you should show that the child resided with you for 12 months even though he was born on 11/07.

your baby does " actually " have to be living w/ you for a full 12 months, but depending where you get your taxes done will depend on how they will classify that , so look for a " good " place to get your taxes done. Ask around.
