It is 7.75% and the city or county you live in may add another percent or two for their coffers. So 8.25% in your area is probably right. |

If you go by 8.25%, you are safe. Los Angeles county is 8.25%, but if you go out into Orange county, like anaheim it's 7.75%, and in the Inland Empire like Ontario, it is 7.75%.
If you really want to find out exactly, go to this site, and it lists it by either city or county. This is only for California.

Ok I am looking right at a reciept from 2 days ago, the sales tax in California is 7.25%. Of course that is where I am from, it could be different in different counties. Check with a local merchant, they'd know. |

For the most part is 7.75%, but there are certain areas that are 8.25%. I live in San Diego, but there's a county of San Diego called El Cajon that's 8.25% if one lives in the incorporated area. Basically, the city and street name factor. |
