Called Stimulus Rebate Hotline Today?
Well the hotline has been updated! But still not happy, but have to live with it! We filed turbo tax and had to wait on a paper check because we had the fees taken from our return. Finally today the hotline says I will get $1200 back. But that it will be mailed on May 16. My husbands ss# ends in 00 I thought they were starting to mail out checks on May 9. What is the correct schedule anyway!?!

For Laci who is obviously one of those people who hid behind a computer screen and call others name. So call me greedy I don't care. I am not greedy, just wondering how I am going to feed my children each week. Because of cut backs at work this week, I had to borrow money from my Dad just to buy 80.00 worth of groceries for my kids. So sweep your own back porch before you start sweeping mine. Have a great day!

I spoke to an IRS rep today and was told that the checks will start going out on 5/9/08, that is a week early and it will be going by the last two of your ss#.

Everyone has their own opinion regarding this rebate from the government. Every family has a different situation and therefore some may need that money just to get ahead of their bills and some may not need it as much. I don't think you should call people greedy or impatient because you don't know what their situation may be. I am a single mother of two and I work full time and I make enough money to pay my bills, however with gas prices and food prices rising it makes it a little harder. I am not able to take the bus because of where I live so I am driving 20 miles to and from work. I have two growing boys who have big appetites so I can't cut down on groceries. If its hard for a married couple to survive, how do you think a single parent of two is surviving? This money would come in handy right now to help with the cost of gas and electric, food and those ridiculous gas prices. So don't knock someone down just because they are a little anxious to receive the extra money that the government owes to us.

For people thinking others who are anxious for their rebates are greedy, impatient, irresponsiblie, etc..
Yes, the economy is awful and is getting worse by the day. Fuel prices are killing us (and don't tell everyone to take public transportation...some of us live in rural areas and it isn't available and our only option is driving 60ish miles roundtrip or more). The price of fuel is making the trucking industry suffer...Its more expensive to send food places, so food costs more. Its expensive to send anything, anywhere, so there are mills and factories shutting down (we have a paper pulp mill nearby that shut down with an entire townful of people losing their jobs recently, and another nearby that has slowed enough to really hurt many local families)...These people lose their jobs and can't spend any money, halting the economy...
And this money is not free to us...no money here is free...do you know what the federal reserve is? Its a bank....not a government entity, but a private bank who sets the ammount of interest it will charge the government for every dollar they disburse...So our government has to pay them for all money out there...To cover that interest, the government has to borrow MORE money from the Federal Reserve...so none of our money is ever paid for...we are always behind...how does the government pay that interest? Income tax. I have heard people who don't understand say that our country would not thrive without taxes...I don't consider digging through couch cushions and under the seats of the car and through jacket pockets for quarters to get me to work and school thriving. my husnad used to work, with me staying home with the kids. Its not for every family, and i applaud parents who make the sacrifice of working, but the bottom line is we used to be able to afford it and I wanted to spend every second of my babies' childhood with them. Now we both work, I go to college, and we never have any time together as a faimly. My inlaws are both disabled, older and sick. The bill being passed to allow pharmaceutical companies to set prices sky-high has made their neccessary medications so high that they cannot afford them all, even with medicare...So we have to help them...Making it so that we are literally looking for change for gas at the end of the month. Asking relatives who also can't afford to help much to buy a pack of diapers for our baby.
Nobody in this country should have to live like a bum if they work full-time. Taxes would probably make us thrive if every one of our dollars was not owed on...if every buck was worth a buck...
So a private bank is gouging us all by making our money cost us too much, basically...
Greed is inflating gas-prices, not supply and demand (the demand is no higher, and if you look around, the supply is not in trouble at the moment either) Look around on this as well...

The one and only reason I mention all this is to try and help others understand...
If we have all these problems that could be fixed and we just sit there and tell people "complaining" about it to back down and just thank our lucky stars that uncle sam is going to throw us some table-scraps, I think that's dangerous. More money will have to be borrowed from the federal reserve to pay off its disbursement...Our national debt is insane...So taxes will pay for this as well...I have read that we will not be penalized on our taxes, but that is still the source that will pay for it...Which just means that more money will be borrowed from this bank ...making our dollar's value decrease more and more...it sucks! Anyone remember when a canadian dollar was worth less than ours? Not anymore...So please don't just say, "Well, don't whine...Its our own fault and the irs is giving us free money." Its almost like stockholm syndrome. Its responsible and patriotic to be pissed off when things are not right in this country that has enough wealth to not have a single homeless person, hungry child, or sick person whithout care. It was our election of this administration, yes, that has us in trouble. (Although the election was pretty up-in-the-air in the way of accuracy, if you'll remember.
When we wreck our own car, we don't just think...Well, its my own fault, so i guess I'm screwed....We think that we need to fix the problem. We tell others to wear their seatbelts and drive carefully.
When the guy at the bank is offering you a loan with outlandish rates in years to come, we don't think...Well, this guy is sooo generous for helping me out....We think: Now wait a minute, that's not right.
And that's why I mention this (long *sorry*) point. If everyone knows why and say's "now wait a minute; that's not right" We have a better chance at things changing. Its not meant to make anyone feel defensive or to feel "wrong" and I'm right. Just hopefully to make you understand that you are being screwed too...Even if you are doing alright now you are being screwed, too...because you COULD be doing even better if things were the way they should be

***Laci: I agree with you that the government shouldn't be relied upon to give us hando BUT we shouldn't be so incapable of making our lives work out even when we are doing our best. Yes, if you have to work 2 and 3 jobs to make ends meet, that's just what you have to do now. Totally sucks. I go to school and work... My husband works 50 plus hours a week and we can't squeeze any more in because someone needs to be with our children when the other is working/at school/studying. Yes, there is daycare but we would do barely better than breaking even with the cost of that. Plus, the only thing that keeps me going is getting to see my children for the tiny ammount of time I can. If I never had that, I'd just go be a crazy mountain-woman instead and live off the land because there'd be no point in running myself ragged...
I don't think any of these struggling people have a nickle to spend on unneeded things. DVD players, cable, games...these are things I could maybe buy in the 90s, but as of now I have not even bought myself a new article of clothing in years. I haven't seen a movie, had a drink with my friends, gone out to dinner with my man or anything else for years either. I pay my rent, buy gas to go to school and work, insure my car because I learned the hard way what happens when you don't (that's a hard bill to pay when your cupboards are getting bare!) I buy a very little bit of food. Its literally to the point where I feed my kids and don't eat myself because there simply isn't anything. I buy my inlaws their breathing medications and thyroid pills and heart medications when medicare won't help with. I skip going to the doctor if I'm sick because...no insurance and the government is ok with people being sick and allowing for insurance companies to set the cost of a basic human right: health. (watch the movie sicko...we are taught in america these days to think if we can't afford it that we don't deserve it...but it should be a public service like schools and police and fire departments. Its no different to me than if we just can't find a job that pays well enough and our house is burning to the ground and we can't afford to pay the fire-fighters we are just going to not have a house. Only its worse: If we worked our butts off our whole lives and get cancer and and we can't afford medical care or good insurace or we are turned down by insurance than our country's attitude is: Why should we help you? You die, its not my problem.)
So is it the government's fault if someone can't feed their kids? Yeah, it is. Not because they won't hand out money or food but because its ok to allow companies to make fortunes off our backs but not pay us enough to survive. That should be illegal. The federal minimum wage should be enough, according to the cost of living, to allow people to live. People still think that's bad. They think it messes with capitalism and the american dream. They think it is unfair to a small business who can't afford to pay their employees that much. Its not unfair. You shouldn't be able to have an employee if you can't afford to pay them enough. Do the work yourself until your business takes off. Its not ok to have food if you can't afford it, so why should you be able to have the labor of others if you can't? A livable wage would turn those of us who only pay our bills (barely) and buy fuel into consumers who buy other things, boosting the economy and giving companies even more money in their pockets.
yeah, its the government's fault. Its supposed to be OUR government. We should be able to change these things. But whoever has the gold makes the rules, and they won't make the gold something we can get. Yep, bills are bought into law. Legislators are given funds for voting one way or the other. Our votes for elections don't really exactly count. We (sort of) elect or local congress-people based on how they SAY they will vote and they vote whichever way is in the best interest of their bank-account. The idea of our free society has been corrupted, and all I want is for it to be changed back. But I don't have money to influence the way the laws are changed...so I feel frustrated! And if enough people are frustrated into saying things I think there's a snowball's chance in hell for something to get better.
I feel bad for all of us now. I feel bad for you. You work 2 jobs and your husband works 3...that sucks! You should be contributing a great job to a company who benefits from that for about 40 hours a week; and for that you should be reimbursed properly. You should have plenty of time to spend with your family and sle

I am wondering the same thing on the rebate situation. I am a single parent, and I was making around $300 a week and with the economy the way it is, my hours have been cut back and I am making half that at this time. Gas prices are so bad my family and I have been unable to attend church, due to we found a wonderful church that is a 20 mile drive, yet at almost $4.00 a gallon we cannot go anywhere, my sons car is sitting he has been taking the bus to work, his hours have been cut as well. Its very obvious why we all need our money, even though it is free money, and I am very thankful we are recieving this. Bill collectors and every day bills are getting so out of hand, I am almost ready to have my phone turned off due to every time it rings its someone wanting money. No one has any compassion when it comes to money because they know their companies can fold up as well due to the situation in our economy today. So with this in mind, it is very hard to be patient especially when you do have children to feed and clothe, but in the meantime, we need to keep patient and pray through these hard time, because it can either get better or worse. I hope you all get your money, as taxpayers and hard workers we deserve it!!!!

for the person says we are greedy. hmm seems like the greedy ones are those that are so called goverment. we should not be put in the situation where we have to depend on handouts. People are poor and getting poorer because of the bad economy. so if we are anizious then let people be....alot are just trying to make a life with nothing in there bank acounts. so sad.................so be understanding ........for those that are needy.

The original schedule had paper checks starting to go out on May 16th - and I don't think IRS has updated their web page or the hot line to reflect the updated time line.

candymom419
Still not happy?????????? No, i think you could be wrong. I think we are very happy and grateful. But have you seen gas or grocery prices lately!? Ive said this before....me and my husband make the same amount of money as we've alway had, have the same amount of biils, we've been doing fine, but the last couple of months, we cant hold our head above water. We are sinking. Our phone is turned off right now! I had to borrow money from my mother to get diapers. Do you know how that feels. We dont ever spend out of our means. Its hard right now for everybody. Thats why there giving us this money back, they know how bad we need it. And WE need it!!

You are very right about that.

Brandy!!!!!!!!! I have never heard anything more well put in my life! Thank you Thank You! That was very informative!!!!

LMAO!! omg! Laci? seriously, what in the world is getting rid of your dvd player gonna fix??? Your not making sense! And your being very rude to people who are not being rude to you. What country do you live in that you cannot understand what is going on. Don't you watch the news? Your lucky its not affecting you like everyone else! I hope you will teach your children more compassion and understanding than you yourself are showing. Yes, everybody does have to tighten there belts, but thats not going to stop prices from falling. This has gotten insane. All she wanted to know was a question? Why comeback with calling people greedy. Thats uncalled for and just rude! I bet your were one of those bullies in middle school that used to beat people up for there New Kids on the Block posters!!! Be Nice!!!!

latj
I would say the May 16th date sounds right since you got it from the hotline. Go to IRS.gov.com and you can input your SSN and your info and you can get the up to date and correct information. A lot of people are dealing with the same problem!!!

Check www.irs.gov for the complete schedule. Paper checks start being mailed May 16th. Sounds like yours is in the first batch, lucky you. All the direct deposits are "supposed" to be sent by May 16th as well.

May 16 is correct.

This is from the turbo tax site:

Even if you have received or will receive your tax refund by direct deposit to your bank account via Santa Barbara Bank & Trust, the IRS will not do the same for your tax rebate. It will mail your rebate instead.

This applies only to TurboTax customers who used the "refund transfer" with SBB&T when filing. This service lets you pay for your tax preparation and/or e-filing from your refund proceeds, for an additional fee, rather than use a credit card.

When TurboTax customers chose this payment method, they authorized the bank to set up temporary accounts to be used only to receive their 2007 refunds from the IRS. The IRS sends the refunds to the temporary accounts and the bank transmits them directly to customers.

Because the IRS does not in fact receive taxpayers bank-account numbers under this method, it cannot match taxpayers with their current bank accounts.

That's why the IRS decided that taxpayers who entered into financial transactions with third parties, such as SBB&T, would get rebates by mail.

"Still Not happy?!?"
Are you kidding me?
Wow America has become so GREEDY.
Man It's FREE Money, how can you say your still not happy?
You just need to be THANKFUL we are even getting any money. FREE MONEY at that.
And yes the date sounds right

** Yes I said GREEDY...
The economy is bad, we are all struggling but the government ( that we all elected) Does NOT OWE us a dime.BE THANKFUL your getting a check! So if you don't like it then get your butts to the polls and vote and make our government fix it!
They can only do what the people that elected them allow.***

***I am NOT a person that as you said 'Hide behind a computer and call names'... I will out right to your face tell you that the behavior you display is greedy. I voice my opinion as I see fit. I vote on issues and rally for my beleifs. It's not the governments fault you cant feed your family. If we all rely on the government to bail us out we will not be a free government we will become a dictatorship. Maybe you need to cut back your spending. Cable, cell phones, DVD players, games, these are NOT a neccesity. Work two jobs. My husband has 3 jobs and i work 2 and i still have my weekends off. It's all about tighting your belt and not spending on frivolous things. If you dont want HONEST answers then DONT post to a OPEN Bulleton. Not everyone thinks the way you do and thats why it's called a free Government so we can FREELy voice out opinions.
