Brian J is correct. Child support payments do not qualify as income necessary to qualify for the earned income credit.

No, child support is not earned income. You do not report child support received as income at all. And no, you can't use it as the basis to claim the EIC or any other credits. |

Check the laws in your state, but I believe it is classified as income. You have to pay taxes on it so... |

Earned income credit, yes. Claiming it as income no. You should claim spousal support as income, however. |
