rogersjwr | Can I claim head of household on my taxes? |
Currently I'm not married and have no children. I dont claim myself during the year. So how do I claim myself at the end of the year?
This government is screwed up. I know people in same situation I'm in and they get almost every penny back. I just dont understand. |

The Simple answer is no...you can not claim head of household.
I don't see any reason to try and explain it...with the attitude you showed. |

No you can't claim head of household. You can only claim single. You claim yourself at the end of the year by putting a number one in the exemptions box. You should get a little back if you had enough taken out in the first place. And if you didn't, have your employer take out an additional 10 dollars a week for federal withholding. And next year you should be ok. I wish you luck. No head of household until you have a child or become married. |

You have zero allowances on your W-4, which means the maximum is taken out for taxes. However, you still claim your own exemption on your tax return. This reduces your taxable income by $3,400.
Your filing status is single. This reduces your taxable income by $5,350. So in total you do not pay income taxes on $8,750.
You will pay income taxes over that amount of earnings.
You may benefit from speaking to a person who can help you with tax planning. There are some things you can do to reduce your taxes owed, such as saving for retirement or health care, buying a home, and certain types of investments. |

No. Your filing status is Single. Period!
Your tax refund is the same as getting change at Wally World. You buy $30 worth of stuff and give the cashier a $50. He hands you back $20. Any "refund" is just getting your change back. Only with the IRS you wait up to 16 months for your change.
If you're not getting much back, you've actually done the RIGHT thing by not overpaying your taxes and giving the government an interest free loan. The idiots who get back $5,000 actually loaned the government $100 a week that they could have had in their pocket if they had any brains at all. Don't envy them, feel sorry for them. |

You will file as Single. You are not Head of Household as you don't provide house for a dependent.
If you are not dependent yourself, then you will get standard deduction of $5,350 and exemption of $3,400. |

No you can't claim head of household - for that you have to have a closely related person living with you that you are supporting, like your child, and you don't.
If your friends are in the same situation that you are except they have children, then they might well get almost everything back - there are major tax benefits for kids, especially if your income isn't high. Or if they are over 25 and you aren't, that could make a difference too. Otherwise if they are making over $8750 for the year, they are paying taxes - if they say they aren't, they're not telling you the truth.
At the end of the year, you'll check the box for yourself and take your own exemption, unless your parents or someone else can claim you as a dependent. If nobody can claim you, and you are showing 0 allowances on your W-4 form, you should be getting a refund unless you make so little that nothing is taken out.
If you'll post again showing your gross income for the year and how much if anything was withheld for federal income tax, your age and whether anyone else can claim you, somebody can give you an idea what you should be getting back - without that info, nobody can. |

no, you can't. One time I forgot to put my son's ssn on my taxes, so the IRS refigured them without him and without head of household...yikes! I learned my lesson from that.
What you claim during the year doesn't matter when it comes to what you claim at the end of the year. You will claim yourself at the end of the year, unless your parents claim you. |
