If she is married, you can only claim her if she claims married filing separately (MFS).... This will be a huge detriment to her and her husband... Of course depending on their situation. But typically filing MFS results in a lot more taxes paid... On top of that, the IRS audits more MFS filers than any other group.

While it would help you by claiming her... It would force them to file MFS, and hurt them a lot worse.

You can claim her your provided over half her support, she did not have $3400 in income and does not file a joint return with her husband.

MissyDoo
no not if she is married now

Not if she is filing with her new husband and being claimed as a dependant.

Legally, you probably can but you need to coordinate with her so that if you claim her, she doesn't claim herself.

If your daughter is claiming herself on her tax return, the answer is no. Check with her. If she is paying $0 with 0 exemptions, then you could still write her off, but if she needs to file using herself as an exemption, then back off. She is just getting started, and can probably use the money a lot more than you.

ronald.glass@sbcglobal.net
If you contributed more than 50% of her support in 2007, you can claim her.
