I'm more afraid of some of the answers though! A shocking number of folks display their utter ignorance of US taxes. It's one thing to differ on the reading of a complex law or regulation but it's entirely different on the relative no-brainers. |

The ONLY time you can claim your dog is if he is a certified service dog (guide dog, hearing dog, seizure dog). In that case you can his cost and upkeep as a medical expense. This includes food and veterinary expense. If he is not a certified dog and you don't have a doctor's order for him, you can't claim him.
I know you were being sarcastic but some people CAN claim dogs or other animals due to their medical conditions. |

You said it.. But one of the answer also got a point about the medical condition....
