Remember, when using TurboTax or any of the other online tax prep sites through IRS Free File, that you must use the link found on the Free File site to get to your tax prep site for the session that you'll pay for the service.

In other words, in the case of TurboTax Freedom Edition, when it's time to pay, make sure you've gone through the Free File page to get there, so that TT gets the info that you qualify for a free file and will not pay for services.

BTW, did you try filing your state tax? It might be that you live in a state that doesn't participate in the Free File Alliance and TT is simply charging the going rate in your state. The Federal is free, but not the state.

www.irs.gov
its free

added here is a direct link
http://www.irs.gov/efile/article/0,,id=118986,00.html

added: the companies on there do not charge nothing not even the turbo tax that is affiliated on the site

Go to www.irs.gov and click on 2007 Free File. It gives you a list of companies that will let you file your Federal return for free if you are under a certain income.

everyone is right about the govt. websites, however, it you made over a certain amount (I think $50,000) last year you have to pay. Good luck to u!

I did mine through turbo tax.. i first went to www.irs.gov then click on the link to taxes for free or something like that and clic on guide me to a company.. it will then ask u some questions to see what company u qualify to do ur taxes for free... it just depends on ur income.. turbo taxes income limit is 28,000 so if u make under that then u can do ur state and federal for absolutely no cost... good luck!

Tax Act doesn't charge for preparing, printing, or e-filing a standard return and they have free support too. I also like that they guarantee an accurate return or they'll pay the penalty. Check out their freebie offer at http://freetax.mortgageous.com/

.

Go to the IRS website. It was providers that will help you file your taxes for free. I've been using hrblock.com for a few years now, with no problems at all.

HI:)
I used taxnet.com it's free.

You can do both federal and state taxes on line at taxengine.com. Good Luck and Good Health

Yes, irs.gov has a link where if you are low income, you can efile for free w/ their software, which I think it turbotax, accessed thru their site.

aljbookworm
If you want to use turbo tax online you can but instead of fileing your taxes online with them you can just print out the filled in form and mail it in yourself.

idk
sorry dude you have to pay...i dont think there is any site that would let you do it for free....if you want free do the paper version and mail it in but that still costs the stamps...

Tammi D
taxact.com has free software, but it has minor annoyances that prompt you to buy a more feature-laden version (just ignore them).
