Shaggymc | Can I file my property taxes on my return even though I haven't Paid my Property taxes for that year yet? |
I have a tax bill for my property taxes, that is still due. I am planning on paying he taxes at the end of this month. I am filling my taxes now, should I report the property tax, or do I need to wait and file it on next years return along with that years taxes. |

You can only claim the deduction in the year that you actually pay it. You will be able to claim it on your 2007 return even though it is being paid late. If you pay the 2007 tax in 2007, you'll be able to deduct both year's property taxes.
Tax tip: If you want to preserve a deduction for a particular year, see if you can pay it with a credit card or even take out a small loan to pay for it. When you charge something it is considered to be paid when charged even if you don't pay off the charge card until a future tax year. |

If you did not pay them during the tax year, you can not claim them during that year. But, you can claim the during 2007. Now here is the good part. Pay the 2007 property taxes in 2007 and claim them both. |

You can't take the taxes as a deduction unless they have been paid. You can deduct them next year if you pay them during 2007. |

No. |

You can only claim the deduction for the year in which it was actually paid. |

whatever you paid in 2006, you can claim. If the check has not been paid yet, that's a 2007 deduction

I would wait because if they look it up for accuracy and see you haven't paid your property taxes yet then they'll get ya. |

Claim the yearly amount of your property taxes on your return regardless of when (or even if) you actually pay them. The IRS doesn't care when, and they won't come back to see if you paid, either. |
